@brendan_cubs Angels players were the first I saw do this. Jim Edmonds comes to mind. Possibly Rod Carew had something to do with it since he was the hitting coach back then. I think

Miguel Amaya’s simplistic no-stride approach is something I’ve always admired in other players. Albert Pujols’ pick-the-toe-up method. When I played, my brain could never handle it—it felt so unathletic without a stride.

There was some ambiguity about whether the Cubs would sign Dylan Carlson with Chas McCormick and Justin Dean in the organization, but it’s my understanding Cubs are signing Carlson to an MiLB deal with a ST invite. He’s battled health issues, but could be a nice add if healthy.

After batting practice, Matt Shaw took outfield reps. Good reaction time from crack of bat, one depth judgment misread on a fly ball at him, but great acceleration going back and forward. Lots of torque and horsepower in his running. VIDEO.

@DEvanAltman If he was truly not coachable I think he would’ve been sent down or traded by now. Shaw seeking outside help is being blown out of proportion. Didn’t Dansby seek his offseason hitting coach when he was struggling in 2024?

Relative to the recent note about Matt Shaw perhaps not being very coachable, which I’ve not heard previously, I wonder how much of it is his adherence to motor preferences. I know he sought help from his college coach and the Motor Preference Experts folks during season.
