Self-promotion on Twitter has never been my strong suit but I'm excited to announce the publication of my book, Dust on the Throne: The Search for Buddhism in Modern India with @navayanabooks and @stanfordpress

Very late to the game on this one (seems to be my MO on X!) but I couldn't agree more that it would be a great episode for @EmpirePodUK: what say you, @DalrympleWill? My argument on Buddhism in India post-1500 remains the most contested part of my book but is also a good story
Dhammananda@Dhammananda2500

@DalrympleWill While this article has problems (but not Sinclair's essay it references), none comes as surprise. Just read Douglas Ober's Dust on the Throne for thorough discussion of Buddhism's afterlives in post-1500s India, including Buddhaguptanatha. Need an episode with him on @EmpirePodUK

🧵 Radio Free Asia was born after Tiananmen to report where dictators silence truth. In Burmese, Uyghur, Mandarin, and more — we’ve delivered uncensored news across Asia. But on March 15, 2025, the U.S. government abruptly terminated our funding. #RFA #journalism

@pradeepmagazine @surajyengde I think you’re certainly right but just as in the past, the Hindutva project requires an engagement with Buddhism in order to define and contain it

this was dr ambedkar’s plan to go eastwards and make the buddhist country corridor. the pitiful congress of the past lost the opportunity that the bjp is now reaping. i had even told a buddhist minister in the k’tka govt about it. he asked me to coordinate the govt would fund.

Witnessing this gathering was a humbling reminder of Asia’s shared spiritual heritage. The Summit’s focus on collective & spiritual growth aligns deeply with India’s Act East Policy & Neighborhood First Policy. Together, we celebrate the timeless teachings of the Buddha, a heritage that connects hearts across Asia, embodying compassion, mindfulness & interconnectedness.

📢📢 Publication alert: Delighted that my article "A Tibetan Window into the 20th C Himalayan World" is out! Drawing on archival collections in Delhi, Gangtok, and London, I show how the #Tibetans who came to India in the 1940s and 1950s trod centuries'-old migration routes.

I couldn't stop myself to start from title of the book to last sentence of the book. It's historical text but not less than thriller. It's the most amazing historical text..... Strongly recommend to read.
