When the General Secretary of the Communist Party visited Stanford University, I was part of the crowd who saw him leave after his speech. The crowd was cheering and clapping, in seeming unanimity. I was a staunch Democrat then, which meant something else, and felt viscerally a deep antipathy to any Communist deeply in power then, including Gorbachev. The speech was deceit.

One way you can tell you’re being exposed to agitating propaganda is by noticing that on a given issue, the pundits tend to try to turn the temperature up, not down.
It’s not that they deliver a “hot take” here or there; it’s that they consistently pour gasoline on the fire and try to get people emotionally engaged to override their thinking. They’re searching for hot embers or little flames and then spraying lighter fluid all over and around them.
That is, they want to frame everything you see or read in terms that have high emotional valence and that are designed to pull on your emotions so that their “hot takes” will make you hotter and hotter until you lose your mind.
Anytime you see a political arena where the temperature just keeps getting turned up and never down, you can be absolutely sure there’s political warfare and agitprop running wild.
The places this behavior has been the most obvious to me over the last few years were Trump Derangement Syndrome and the Covid propaganda about spreading the disease and the "unvaccinated." It has also been blatantly happening with regard to turning people against Israel now for several years. In all cases, there's just always that search for whatever turns the temperature up, makes more people madder, and spreads the anger.
