@Sehpix I do agree with this, since the reason we are here is because he didnt let owen educate himself first. My statement was mostly clearing up the fact that people seem to think avid was using genai only a month ago (when his announcement abt the bot came out), which is just untrue.

Would also like to say that the sbk community is very anti genai. If avid was using ai in the current day his friends wouldve pelted him with rocks.

@Hugz4rendawg People just being loud and incorrect about avid’s usage of ai when hes been clear on his stance about it for over a year and always planned on replacing the ai in his discord bot with real art. Im not saying that hes never used it but claiming he used it last month is just untrue

@Whitey_OW I agree avid could have waited to say something but i dont think he was trying to make a dig at anyone personally. This feels much more like a “im disappointed in the way ai is bleeding into the mc space” tweet than anything

I think this sounds normal and that people should be allowed to criticize colleagues on this stuff. Just because theyre friends doesnt mean theyre saved from those friends being validly upset.

So is the precedent being set that we have to use GenAI to stay ahead in Minecraft roleplay? Considering POWs position in the space, this is a horrible example to set Not to mention the harmful effects agentic coding has on rural, water-starved communities like mine

I’ve made my stance on GenAI very clear, but I’m gonna say it again:
I will never be involved with a project that uses generative AI. The psychological and environmental impacts are horrific. I think it’s pathetic and lazy and inconsiderate to use any form of GenAI.

@Whitey_OW I dont think theres a lot to be said on whether or not theres something going on in the bg as well. It really doesnt feel like it to me, as he doesnt dig at anything personal and only mentions the stuff about ai

@caspIasm Its the phrasing and the dog pilling (I mean did avid ever mention about the ai on misadventures used for the npcs, that came before bannerfall. I know character ai but thus was gen ai I think?)

Would also like to tack on that i dont think owen is a bad person , just misinformed and will be taking steps away from (if any) ai used. I just think that whenever avid has loud opinions yall wanna stone him and i dont think thats fair 😭

@rainfallrosey I think it might be a tone takeaway, imo it sounds more like avid is upset at the common usage of ai now bleeding into the mc community. Which may also have sounded less like an “attack” if he had waited for a better response from owen.

@caspIasm While creators SHOULD express distaste for GenAI I 100% agree, the post itself in its wording feels like somewhat of an "attack" (though thats strong word choice for lack of better words) rather than a productive take to add to the convo. Or maybe thats just my tone takeaway

@NyxinVoid He did respond in the comments of the og tweet in screeshots with more fleshed out statements . I think my statement still stands though , and with avid’s very clear stance on ai i think he has a right to be upset. I dont think anything he said was particularly harsh either

@rainfallrosey By ai i mean genai * ofc. Theres a lot of discussion too about other types of ai , but im specifically talking about genai here.

@rainfallrosey I think he could have waited for a response but i dont think handling everything in dms is always the solution. Being loud about your distaste for ai is a way to show that ai is not tolerated, and i get his frustration at the (potential) use of ai by someone in his same field.
