The Hebrew Bible describes strong trade relations between the Phoenician city of Tyre and the kingdom of Israel. Later, the two kingdoms also formed a marriage alliance of Ahab of Israel and Jezebel, daughter of king of Tyre. The two groups would've had little problem communicating as Ancient Hebrew and Phoenician—two Iron Age West Semitic languages—were largely mutually intelligible. In fact, the 6th-century BC Phoenician inscription below, taken from a sarcophagus of a Sidonian king, when transcribed in a modern style, is still somewhat legible to a modern Hebrew speaker. It says: "I, Tabnit, priest of Astarte, king of Sidon, the son of Eshmunazar, priest of Astarte, king of Sidon, am lying in this sarcophagus. Whoever you are, any man that might find this sarcophagus, don't, don't open it and don't disturb me, for no silver is gathered with me, no gold is gathered with me, nor anything of value whatsoever, only I am lying in this sarcophagus. Don't, don't open it and don't disturb me, for this thing is an abomination to Astarte. And if you do indeed open it and do indeed disturb me, may you not have any seed among the living under the sun, nor a resting-place with the Rephaites.

@hekwoys An annoying one I hear often is pronouncing "woman" and "women" identically as /wʌmən/ and I haven’t been able to figure out if it's a weird regional thing or generational

Zoomer retard-isms I can’t stand: - can’t use “an” properly. “A apple” - pronouncing words in -/tən/ -[ʔn̩] as -[ʔɪn], such that there’s an intervocalic glottal stop like in England. “Bu’ihn” for “bu’n” (button) - [ə] sentence final particle. “Can we go-uhh?”

It is mildly infuriating that you used to be able to just google "sunset" and it would tell you the forecasted sunset time in your location. It now gives you an AI explanation of what a sunset is. I don't see why this would ever be an expected use case

When I lived in Ukraine an old guy demanded that I tell him what food Americans eat nearly every night (looking for borscht equivalent). He was convinced I was lying. Eventually he stood up and said, “You mean to tell me your mother prepares a different meal every day?”

I can stop you right at the first one: This idea that you just HAVE to have completely different cuisines every single meal is in fact a sign that you have a serious problem with dopamine addiction and social media induced psychosis

While this is being dunked on, the actual trvthnuke is instead of wasting away on PB&J or eating plain chicken and rice every meal, is to retvrn to stews and soups. You get the maximum amount of nutrition, easy to cook, and you get more mileage out of your ingredients.

Loaf of bread = $5 Peanut butter = $4 Jelly = $4 18 pack of chips = $12 Bag of apples = $5 Total = $30 And you'll have lunch for an entire week or two. $2-4 average per day. Inflation isn't the problem. Your spending habits are.

It's honestly a massive market failure if a person producing their own food at home can achieve a lower marginal cost than a competative market of firms solely dedicated to producing hot meals. Can't understand why you would support free markets if they can't even deliver lunch.
