@LizCarolan p.s. excellent piece. You have captured both the fear and the pleasure that arises once you get into it. And thoroughly yes, contextualise the big picture but in the way you can do best. Let others do their thing that is not your thing.

@LizCarolan Had a brief moment of 'what did i do?' before seeing the context. I have no doubt you were superb! But also, it is fun isn't it? Mad but fun.

The government is trying to set up lots of new public bodies to help deliver on its aims. But there is a dearth of guidance on how to do this well. A great new @instituteforgov report by @DrMatthewGill fills this gap, learning from lots of previous case studies...
Matthew Gill@DrMatthewGill

The UK establishes some public bodies every year. But how can we do it better? Our new @instituteforgov report dives into some case studies to find out: instituteforgovernment.org.uk/publication/ho… A thread... (1/13)

@Uncivil_S You can’t take either automatically, but you’ll find most of those you follow who are there are easy to find and if you go into their follows you will build similar quite easily. Followers grow steadily there and they will find you easily through same means. But not same numbers

If one were to open a blue account, is it possible to take the lists or people you follow, and even your followers, with you, as it were (and bearing in mind I’d like to go on being at least a bit anonymous)? Anyone know, please, or do you have to go to the blue place first?

EXCL: Sue Gray has rejected an offer to become PM’s envoy for the regions and nations, her allies tell @ft ‘Sue has taken a decision not to take the role. She’s going to focus on other things,’ said one ‘She’s taken time to think about it properly, talking to stakeholders, but ultimately she’s decided she doesn't want to do it’

Nothing is written in stone. They can configure the role to suit them best. But all these responsibilities will need to be owned by someone.

As the first political appointee in the role, this isn’t a bad appointment. Obvious strength on foreign policy, offsetting areas where he will need to lean more on his staff. Plenty of scope to revise the role (& wider NS centre) to fit how he/Starmer want it.

NEW - Jonathan Powell, Blair's former chief of staff and architect of the Good Friday Agreement, back in No10 as Starmer's National Security Adviser. Big beefing up of the Downing St operation. Scoop with William Wallis ft.com/content/308792…
