Sharing this article @guardian
by @PhilHarrison examining the damage to the arts over the last 14 years. The arts is a complex ecosystem but it starts with arts ed in our state schools. Fingers crossed a new Labour Govt scraps the Ebacc asap @ISM_music

In which Rachel Reeves joins Keir Starmer in coming out as a flautist. Flute duets in Downing Street?
Good to see acknowledgement here of how precious music education is and the barriers to it.

What an incredible weekend! We're still buzzing from a glorious Carducci Festival at Highnam 2024 with @CarducciQuartet @LaraMelda @ClarinetEmmaJ & Katya Apekisheva (plus talented young violinists and composers). Roll on 16-18 May 2025, back in #Highnam & @discoverdecrypt.

We did it! Thanks to everyone who supported our #ArtsforImpact Quartet on the Road campaign with @BigGive - we can't wait to get @CarducciQuartet out visiting rural primary schools later this year.

@jjohnstonmezzo Music on the Kent campus has always been very vibrant and exciting without an academic music dept though. Check out @UniKent_Music to see what's on offer.
English

@jjohnstonmezzo I'm not saying this isn't dreadful news - clearly any reduction to a programme is devastating, particularly for staff and students affected. I guess this degree probably competes with the kind of music programmes offered by specialists such as BIMM?
English

@jjohnstonmezzo Ah - interesting. On the Medway campus not the main Kent campus, which didn't exist back in the 90s.

@MusicMagazine For men, black shirts and trousers look so much more comfortable to play in than white tie & tails. Can't quite believe any orchestras are still playing in tails TBH (though clearly they are)! Dinner jackets & black tie not much better for comfort and ease of movement.
English

As orchestras try to modernise their image, is it now time to ditch the dinner jacket?
