Young adults born between 1997 and 2012 are more likely to cite the arts as one of the most valuable aspects of their school experience than older generations, new research has found. artsprofessional.co.uk/news/gen-z-big…

Breaking Bach is an astonishing, life-enhancing experience.
This hip-hop homage to the classical composer is an assertion of the value of embedding arts in the curriculum. Plus: A bold ballet about Mary Queen of Scots.

From @ObserverUK
"It was one of the most inspiring things I have ever seen – an absolute assertion of the value of embedding arts and music in the curriculum of all schools, and a transformative experience for those taking part."

In Breaking Bach, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment join dancers from @Acland_Burghley choreographed by the renowned @KimBrandstrup. Bach's music is brought to life by hip hop in an electrifying fusion.

I hope this government may look at Ireland's Basic Income for Arts pilot, currently coming to the end of a 3-year pilot. 2,000 artists have received weekly €325 payments to enable them to produce work - in recognition of artists' value to society.

Bruckner Five from @theoae was extraordinary last night - a performance that absolutely stood up to the Berlin Philharmonic and Petrenko’s rendition at the Proms while also being poles apart from it. thetimes.com/article/a9d09e…

Tonight, @theoae and conductor Antonello Manacorda brought Beethoven’s pivotal Third Symphony to life, but not before performing Mozart’s First Symphony & Louise Farrenc’s powerful Symphony No. 3. Bravo & thank you! 💐

The standout stat here is that, whilst pride in Britain has declined sharply overall, pride in arts and literature have bucked this trend with 79% of Brits saying they are proud of our achievements in this.

Lots of interesting debate about Olympic “vs” arts funding over the last week. It shouldn’t be a zero-sum game though. And the arts can learn from sport, and vice versa.
A few thoughts from the OAE in The Times here:

We cut arts funding but spent £4m on each Olympic medal. Is that fair? thetimes.com/article/698411…

Another disappointing #ResultsDay2024 for arts. @DCMS industries account for 8% of the UK's economy but A Level numbers are not adequately servicing this.
Good signs recently, but we need unashamed incentivisation of creative subjects in this parliament.
