This weekend marks a historic moment in the history of the Solomon Islands - and Australia has played a huge role in making it happen 🇸🇧🇦🇺⚽️ Despite gaining independence in 1978, the Solomon Kings are the first professional team in any sport the nation has ever had! Australian coach Ben Cahn will be in the dugout for their first match in the OFC Pro League on Sunday. He has signed Aussie winger Jez Lofthouse from @WynnumWolvesFC, the QLD NPL club who have helped make this team a reality. They've got around 20 Solomon Islands locals in the squad and are a team built to represent an entire nation of nearly 850,000, where football is the national sport.
