The final episode of M.A.S.H, “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen”, aired OTD in 1983. After 255 episodes, 105.97 million viewers tuned in to say goodbye to their favourite characters at the 4077th. It remains the most-watched single episode of any U.S. TV series. This feels real.

@therealmissjo There's a very good dramatisation that was out recently by the same writer as adolescence. Also a documentary on iplayer that's worth a listen.

Hard to believe this story but it is true. Corby, a town in the UK, had a steel works which needed to be closed down. Corby Council demolished and removed the works between 1985 and 1997. Except they did not handle it properly. The Labour council, which was in control from 1979 to 2021, cut costs and huge amounts of toxic dust was released into the air. It coated everything. During that time, many women became pregnant and went on to have babies with significant birth defects. One woman’s child was so badly deformed internally that it died. The Council refused to take responsibility until a journalist, Graham Hind, got involved and wrote a story about it for the Sunday Times. It only got a place on page 10 but a lawyer, Des Collins, got involved and sued the council on behalf of the deformed children. The Council never admitted their guilt but, after 11 long years of fighting, the court found them liable and they were ordered to pay damages to the 19 families whose children were born with problems. This is the problem with trusting local councils. When you get one that has no idea what it is doing, it can literally cost lives.
