Jeremy Hunt says he wants those who feel unable to work because of physical or mental health conditions to receive medical and therapeutic help as a condition of receiving their out-of-work benefits uplift, as a pathway back to work. But this seems less than practical - even heroic - at a time when NHS waiting lists and times are at record levels, and goodness knows how or when they will fall to normal levels

For the last month, I’ve explored a Home Office centre for disabled asylum seekers. There are security cards but no care staff. Residents are left without wheelchairs or incontinence pads. One diabetic has lost two toes.
