I think anyone who comes down hard on one side or the other of this question is missing the point. The movie very deliberately keeps Nikki's feelings ambiguous because it doesn't matter whether or not she liked him back, he took the choice away from her with that wish.

I have my issues with the movie but nah. I think the fact it happens so fast is the strength of the scene. It all happens before you or the other people on the boat have time to process it. Incredibly well done in my opinion
