Spring wheat on spring wheat. No applied nutrients since it 2020.

@gbtangus @KudrasR We graze crop aftermath. This piece hasn’t had any cover crops or been grazed in season.

@cbhawksland @KudrasR Any other applied, natural fertility, green cover, manure or animal integration?

@KudrasR Thanks. That mining the soil narrative that ag retail keeps selling seems a little self serving. The seed was treated with Johnson Su compost and we put compost extract in furrow.

Almost $400K for the missile used to shoot down a balloon seems a bit crazy!!! It takes us 6 month or so on the farm to piss away that much money 😂

@TheLastField @IntegratedSoils is having an online course about this in February. It seems like money and time well spent if you are interested in trying this.

@becker1_dave We are shooting for 4 oz of liquid per head per day. There is usually 25 lbs of salt left in the bottom after 3 days.

@cbhawksland That’s interesting. Haven’t heard of that. How fast do they go through that?

The cows are really hitting our brine hard during this hot weather. This is 10 gallons apple cider vinegar, 25 gallons water and 100 lbs of natural salt. They have free choice salt, conditioner and sodium bicarbonate. No mineral for a year and no fly problems.

@becker1_dave It looks really good. It’s crazy how fast stuff will come back with good management.

@cbhawksland Ya it’s paying off. Year 3 of cell grazing this scrub piece of land. Was mostly foxtail and weeds when I started.

Finally got a corn planter. It ain’t much but it’ll work for making cow food if nothing else!

@becker1_dave This will be year 3 and it has worked well so far. I think rye is still a better option but it’s kind of a dirty word in this part of the country since we grow so much winter wheat.

@cbhawksland I was wondering about grazing it. I’ve done winter rye in the past, but was curious obout triticale. Have you grazed much in the past Cory?

Winter triticale is an impressive crop to graze. It’s not tough enough for this year though. Maybe a warm season cover will do better.

Looks like something from Breaking Bad, but these are actually some cool new compost extractors from @Soilworks. These guys were great to work with and hopefully this cuts our extraction time way down this year.
