From a 1,100 person Shabbat dinner on the school’s basketball courts to an Ishay Ribo concert, Jewish joy is thriving at @Columbia That's the positive story about Jewish life at Columbia that doesn't get told enough. Despite two years of growth and progress, challenges still exist on campus. But I spoke to @JNS_org about how Columbia students are celebrating their Judaism. jns.org/news/u-s-news/…

It’s the time of year when many high school seniors are deciding where to go to college, and almost every Jewish parent I know is asking the same question: "Is there antisemitism on campus?" It's the wrong question. In @JTAnews, I wrote about what families should be asking instead, and what 14 years at Columbia/Barnard Hillel has taught me about what actually shapes a Jewish student's experience. jta.org/2026/03/26/ide…

This past Friday was something: - 1300 students, faculty and staff from @Columbia and @BarnardCollege celebrating Shabbat dinner - 310 loaves of Challah baked by students - 7 different post dinner receptions at the Kraft Center - in every sense of the word, it was a Mega Shabbat.

What an honor to attend an event hosted by @CombatASemitism in partnership with @cbhillel, welcoming Natan Sharansky to speak with Jewish students at Columbia. Natan shared his story growing up as a Jew in communist Russia and how it shaped his lifelong fight against oppression and antisemitism. The student Q&A showed just how deeply young Jews in the U.S. resonate with his journey, and how ready they are to carry the torch, stand up boldly, and be loud and proud Jews.

The last few years have been difficult for the Jewish and Israeli communities at Columbia. While challenges remain, there is a vibrant, joyful, proud Jewish community. I am hopeful that President-elect Mnookin will bring the reputation, experience, and understanding that we need to build on the strong foundation. All of us at @cbhillel look forward to working with her.

Despite the horrific attacks targeting the Brown University community and the Jewish community in Australia, hundreds of @Columbia and @BarnardCollege students, faculty, and staff gathered to light the menorah on campus with @ChabadColumbia and @cbhillel. We celebrate the joy of this holiday, pray for the recovery of those wounded, and remember those who were tragically killed.

Thank you to the Columbia Task Force on Antisemitism for Report #4, which bravely exposes the hostility Jewish and Israeli students have faced in the classroom. This transparency is a vital first step, but now @Columbia must act to implement the recommendations. Many universities face these same deep-seated issues; they should follow this lead and commit to the same honest self-reflection columbia.edu/content/sites/…

A true @Columbia Lion - CC57 - May his memory be a blessing.
Jessica S. Tisch@NYPDPC

I am deeply saddened to share the passing of Rabbi Alvin Kass, our Chief Chaplain, and one of the longest-serving members of the New York City Police Department. Rabbi Kass joined the NYPD in 1966, at the age of 30, becoming the youngest chaplain in the Department’s history. Nearly six decades later, he remained its spiritual heart — a source of strength, guidance, and faith for generations of police officers and their families. A U.S. Air Force veteran and Columbia graduate, Rabbi Kass devoted his life to service, to this city, and to the women and men of the NYPD. He comforted the grieving, counseled the troubled, and reminded all of us of the deeper purpose in what we do. He was among the first to respond after 9/11, consoling the families of the 23 officers we lost that day. And for more than half a century, he stood beside our members through moments of tragedy and triumph alike. At every Police Academy graduation, Rabbi Kass offered his familiar blessing — a prayer that New York be “a place where people of every race, religion, color, and creed can pursue their individual destinies untrammeled, unafraid, and in obedience to Thy will.” Today, that prayer belongs to all of us. And as we carry his words forward, we know he will still be watching over the city and the Department he loved. His loss is immeasurable. His example is everlasting. May his memory be a blessing.

Every year, students dance from the Kraft Center for Jewish Life, @cbhillel — to Low Library at @columbia to celebrate Simchat Torah — a day of joy and renewal. This year’s celebration was bigger and brighter than ever, as we gave thanks for the return of the hostages. May this joy lead us toward healing and lasting peace.
