Such a joy to spend time visiting Ms. Christine. She turns 98 today, and has been a member of FBC Paintsville for 87 years. What a blessing she is to our church!

I preach verse by verse through books of the Bible.. This coming week we would be in I John 2 in verses dealing with the Antichrist of John’s day. I would be preaching on Antichrist on Mother’s Day.. 😆 This reminds of the time years ago, when I preached the next verse and chapter in Luke 16 on Hell.. ON BABY DEDICATION Sunday. 😅 Sometimes it is good to be sensitive to special days and preach a Bible message that “fits” the special occasion.

The United Methodist Church committed theological treason yesterday, leaving Biblical Christianity behind in a headlong rush to join the LGBTQ revolution. You can read about it in my article @wngdotorg today. Link below. wng.org/opinions/well-…

The chaos in which our culture presently finds itself didn’t just appear out of nowhere. It came as the predicted result of living in rebellion against reality—against the infallible Word of the Triune God of the Bible. (1/7)

We often look at previous generations and are baffled at their blind spots, failings, and hypocrisies. How could what is obvious to us not be to them? Then I ask: what are our blind spots that future generations will baffled by? I am increasingly convinced of one answer:

Thankful to be at the Reach conference with these brothers (and sister). As great at the conference is, the time of fellowship and singing hymns together afterwards truly blesses my soul. @CoryVanhoose @KentuckyBaptist

5 Best Practices for Pastoral Ministry 1. Pastor prayer letters. (I learned this from Steve Gaines early in my ministry.) I pray for five families in our congregation each day. My secretary sends a letter before the assigned date letting them know that it is my privilege to pray for them on that day and asks them for specific prayer requests. 2. Sunday night suppers. After church on Sunday nights, I invite a different deacon/leader family to have supper with my family. It’s great to be able to be intentional in spending time fellowshipping and catching up with them! 3. Scheduled rests and rewards. (I learned this from one of our deacons who is a cardiologist, and it’s been a game changer.) One of the best pieces of advice my deacon, who is a heart doctor, shared with me was that he can run from 7 am to 9 pm every day for up to two months AS LONG AS he has something BIG to look forward to at the end of that time AND something BIG to look forward to already planned at the end of the next two months. For years, I wasn’t able to do this as a pastor, but the way that this works out in my ministry now is an intentional break/vacation/getaway with my family or wife once a quarter. I have found that I can run the crazy pace of ministry as long as I know there’s a rest and a reward at the end of that time. 4. After-service hang out. (I learned this from Jim Henry in a mentoring group.) After the service, specifically on Sunday nights, I sit on the front of the stage and talk with whoever wants to come chat. It’s super informal but has proven to be super beneficial. Most of the time, it’s just chitchat, but occasionally, I can have a brief pastoral time with a church member or guest without scheduling a 30-minute or hour meeting during the week. 5. Walking slowly among the people. This practice is THE one thing that made the fastest and most significant impact on my ministry at Abilene. Don’t hide in a Green Room before the service; get out and among your people. Hug their neck. Shake their hands. Pat them on the back. Give fist bumps. Hear how they got a promotion, won a race, lost a pet, got a concerning report from the doctor, etc. I usually try to make my way all across the auditorium before the service and get to as many people and families as possible. It makes a BIG difference! #pastoralministry #pastorlife
