One of the hardest things in trading isn’t finding the trade, it’s staying honest once you’re in it. There’s a subtle shift that creeps in after entry. You stop analysing and start rationalising. Instead of asking “Is this still good?” you search for reasons to keep holding. You scroll for posts that align with your view, dismiss conflicting data as noise, and echo chambers start to feel like confirmation rather than comfort. That’s when conviction quietly morphs into bias. Hope replaces clarity. And what began as analysis turns into defense. You might even be right, eventually. But markets don’t pay on eventuality - they pay on timing. A thesis can be sound but mistimed, and that still costs. Being “early” is just a polite way to say you're underwater. The job isn’t to be the first to see it, it’s to ride it when it matters. That means knowing when the odds have shifted against you. Cutting not because the idea is dead, but because your entry no longer reflects the conditions required for it to work. And being mentally flexible enough to re-enter when the market starts to align with the idea again - not out of stubbornness, but renewed edge. This is where most traders fall short: they marry ideas, confuse long-term vision with short-term positioning, and forget that PnL isn’t about being right, it’s about being in the right spot when it matters. The best traders aren’t just good at holding. They’re good at unholding - knowing when to press, when to exit, and when to reengage with cleaner conditions. In a world that rewards conviction, don’t forget it’s timing and execution that compound.
