@SplashOi @balogun @KingJames Soccer wasn’t our first and only sport. USA kids have lots of choices AND are spread further apart more than any country (except China and maybe Russia). Yes, national team soccer is uniquely hard here. Yet US soccer is top 20 in the world for men, #1 for women, and growing.

If your coach wants you on the field…you play. Flo’s level of character was evident in how he handled the entire situation.

@360Griz @balogun @KingJames Sounds like a rant. Includes some insight (American kids have lots of options, and the socioeconomic factor in finding and developing talent) Doesn’t recognize momentum (at the youth level, soccer is growing and football is shrinking).

Every four years we take the best 11 athletes in every other country and put them up against the 4000th best athletes in America, and see if we can even compete. It's a crazy exercise. We will never win the World Cup because every little boy in this country grows up wanting to be in the NFL or the NBA or the MLB or the NHL first. It’s actually quite embarrassing that the rest of the world isn’t even better considering how much they put into this and how little we care. Every child around the world starts in the streets kicking around a ball but in the streets is where the problems starts. In American streets every kid is already dribbling a basketball or passing a football around. Then you get into the issue of pay4play at the youth level. That kills the access and interest. Go to any high school in America. The soccer team is made up of dudes wishing they were big enough to play anything else. Notice how women’s soccer does not have these issues? They have a very different relationship with the sport and it shows when they step on the field for international play.

It was definitely not good enough….. not when your president stepped in to cheat for you. That you went on to play endorsed his cheating. You are right it was not good enough. And when it mattered most you, especially you, should have realized what your next move would have said… and you said it was ok! Not only were your fans let down but the glory and integrity of the game of team USA’s game was destroyed and the fallacy of American values exposed for all to see!

@TeePee6000 @balogun @KingJames American kids have choices. That is to be sure. The son of an NFL player is on the USMNT. The daughter of an NBA player on USWNT. Meanwhile high schools have to combine with other high schools to pull together a football team. Kids are choosing soccer more and more.
