Last week to apply for the ACS Health Policy Scholarships! Had the privilege of attending last year and spending a week at Brandeis learning from and with leading surgeons in the health policy space. Highly recommend! facs.org/for-medical-pr…

@drashwinpillai I agree 100% with the system issues you articulate. But iterating the same project over and over again should not be our message. You can be creative with minimal resources...

@cchildersmd Until we effect a major systemic change in how applicant scholarly activity is parsed, they have little choice but to pursue such an approach. Yes we all value high quality research, but productivity (unfortunately) is viewed quantitatively as well. 2/2

Healthcare Econ 101 - Ep. 2: Show Me the Money!!! Ever wonder why a complex gallbladder surgery only nets the surgeon about $350, while the hospital collects thousands? In this pod, @clarkninam @cchildersmd pull back the curtain on how the 💸💸🫰 actually flows in medicine 🏥. @cchildersmd Once the research question is clear and the method appropriate, the rest flows and your left to deal with synthesis and grammar hygiene

Great points Chris. I love seeing work with: - clear articulation of the Why (intro & Aim) - transparent How that is the bedrock of reproducibility (Methods) - easy to understand context of results and What’s next in discussion section That framework easily translates to a great manuscript. Here’s some additional tips from @AmCollSurgeons Medical Student Committee facs.org/media/l50bhhd4…

@cchildersmd These are entry level competencies. What makes a great abstract? A compelling research question, rigorous methods, and a crisp narrative.

What else distinguishes a great conference abstract from a good one? Would love to hear what others look for

5. Avoid rehashing the same question + methods in a slightly different population — especially when there's no reason to think the existing literature wouldn't already apply.
