I'm leaving X for BlueSky: @cdeneen.bsky.social. I'll be shooting to post a couple times per week on higher ed, assessment, research methods, ed tech and the dynamic spaces where these come together.

This is the way. When the quality of what we are assessing passes a certain threshold, the ethical choice is to step back from further evaluation that grows more bias-prone in attempting finer-grained distinctions.
Hetan Shah@HetanShah

We've opened the call for our @BritishAcademy_ @LeverhulmeTrust small grants scheme offering £10k. We receive so many good applications so awards will be allocated randomly between those applications that meet our quality threshold. Spread the word! thebritishacademy.ac.uk/funding/ba-lev…

@DrJoannaT No, same for us. Also, the three examiner score sets demonstrated little inter-rater correlation. I'm hearing this from others. Assuming the ARC doesn't want very different interpretations of DPEOI standards by raters, increasing inter-rater reliability should be on the agenda.

@DrJoannaT @timbocop We can get most things installed if we just make the case. Hopefully the same for you. You could say that you already have everything in Mendeley, and that you have active, multi-institutional projects using Mendeley. Therefore, you need Mendeley.

So, I swapped back to EndNote as my reference manager after a glorious 12 years on Mendeley ... colour me impatient and frustrated. Alas, it's what's institutionally approved...

Always a pleasure to be a committee member for a great proposal. The best part- telling the person they passed with flying colors. Katrina’s thesis adopts a social constructivist lens to understand authentic assessment in a higher ed context. I predict it will have real impact!
AEGQueens@AegQueens

CONGRATS to Katrina Carbone on a fabulous Ph.D. Oral Candidacy exam! 👏 The title of her proposal was "Setting the Mandate: New Directions for Assessment in Higher Education." Thank you to the committee, chair, & family/friends who attended this milestone! @QueensEduc @QueensEGSS

I think our recent paper offers originality in integrating cohesively a) feedback in doctoral education & b) broader feedback in HE literature. Further thoughts welcome. doi.org/10.1080/030750…

Delighted to say that I have been appointed to the role of Standing Acting Vice Chancellor, parallel to my role as Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Enterprise @UniversitySA. This fractional substantive role will support the Vice Chancellor as Adelaide University is created.

This is a great, general point about how 'terminology awareness' matters in education research. In medicine, a liver is always a liver. In education, 'feedback' may be present and acknowledged, but it's called something else, entirely.
Juuso Henrik Nieminen@JuusoNieminen

I’m one of the scholars who has claimed things like ’there’s not much research on feedback in math ed’. But yes there is, it’s just not called feedback! For example, not all disciplinary research communities call student-student interactions/communication as ’peer feedback’ 😁
