As they reach the end of high school I think this can give too much leniency and train students to think there are little to no consequences for a quick escalation. That isn’t life outside of school and we do a disservice to pretend otherwise

@BrianMendler I have a good reputation at my school for being good with oppositional kids and not needing to get admin or behavior specialists involved, and this is absolutely what I do. Power struggles and trying to force them into compliance just escalate the situation.

Update: This is actually worse. This wasn’t MPD. This was Hennepin County’s system. My source initially indicated MPD. So while MPD stood down after initially responding, Hennepin County explicitly told deputies not to respond at all. Yikes.

Thank you to our law enforcement who are responding tonight to what appears to be unlawful activity by agitators in Minneapolis. Breaking into hotels is not protest — there need to be arrests and a strong message sent that destruction won’t be tolerated.

@UMNews We’ve had at least one @UMNews student shot every year for the past four years in Dinkytown. I need President Cunningham and the Board of Regents to get together NOW and figure out a solution. Every time this happens we call for action and it never comes.

@cdjthompson No one in Minneapolis is satisfied with MPD's performance. We close less cases than other cities and a lot of people do not feel safe in their neighborhoods. You might disagree with the DSA solution, but hard to disagree with their critique of the status quo.

@ehbforbet You say that wanting a functional government can make you a radical. I disagree. One of the core functions of government is policing and public safety and to pretend that the DSA hasn’t actively campaigned against the police is being obtuse.
