Cyprus is a Mediterranean edge case with centuries of direct European political and institutional ties. It applied in 1990 and was admitted in 2004.
Canada is a North American state. Calling it European does not rewrite the treaty. Cyprus is not a loophole through which Canada can squeeze.
All that aside, you can't seriously think that snubbing the US is a prudent idea. As an EU member, Canada would surrender its independent trade policy. The EU has exclusive authority over the customs union, external tariffs and common commercial policy. Canada could no longer negotiate trade arrangements, impose tariffs or respond to the US entirely on its own terms.

Now they have a new brilliant strategy… demand they remove the label that was never based in reality to begin with.
The best part? They can’t show a single actual problem to fix. No policy. No vote. No comparison. Just a label they invented to win an election—paired with “you’re not a patriot” unless you disprove a smear they made up in the first place.
P.s conservatives have been team canada since before it was trending on your feed. They just want you to forget that it was the liberals who called anyone waving a Canadian flag a radical up until a year ago. They want you to forget that it was the liberals who declared Canada a post national state. And now, they want you to forget who our real enemies are.
Friendly reminder: 85% of trade is tariff free. 96% of the 42% of businesses who want to leave Canada because of liberal policies have tariff free trade. 80-90% of manufacturers say a U.S trade deal is the most important thing for the Canadian economy.

What the CPC must now do is ensure that Trumpism is pushed out of the party entirely, and ensure that the patriotic, pro-Canada perspective decisively wins within the party. It must cut ties with the pro-Trump influencers entirely. It must call out the Trump Administration, following the example of leaders like Stephen Harper, Doug Ford, and Jason Kenney. It must work at the grassroots level to ensure Trumpism does not embed itself in local party organizations, and it must ensure that pro-Trump candidates do not win local nominations. This will take real work and real effort. In the short run, it will plunge the party into conflict. But that is already happening anyway, as the influencers try to purge those who question their dangerous and destructive hold over the party. Far better for the pro-Canada majority within the CPC to acknowledge that the fight is occurring and show the determination necessary to win it.

The only thing you need to know is that
Article 49 of the Treaty on European Union says that only a “European State” may apply. Canada plainly does not fit that meaning. Morocco’s application was rejected specifically because it was not considered a European state.
I'm not so sorry to say that unanimous agreement and ratification by all 27 member states will be required to amend it's treaties. Then Canada’s actual accession would require another unanimous Council decision, European Parliament approval, negotiations over the entire body of EU law, and ratification by every member state and Canada. Any single member could kill it.
The chances of that happening are ZERO. Thank Christ for that.
