@KarenHKaplan You’ll be bugging me about the survey in 2025, I know it. I’ll try to get a few more days to file but you’ll hold firm. And we’ll do it all again in 2026. That’s just the way you are.

I have six months to four, *maybe* five, years left on the planet, depending on how the next stages of ‘palliative treatment’ go. So saith my chief medical oncologist. Oh, the joys of a death sentence. #ThanksCancer

@SandraPlanes Would you possibly be interested in being interviewed for a Nature Index story on innovation and COVID? If so, please email me at cdwoolston @ gmail.com. Thank you.

@aaronflint Trump evidently violated the Espionage Act by keeping top-secret nuclear documents. And your response is to blame the FBI. This should be fun.

@Sara_Reardon Hi there. If there's ever a story in Big Timber we'll have to duke it out. (You'll have a 20-mile head start though.)

For possible Nature story: Are any scientists in "trigger states" concerned that the Roe v Wade ruling will make it hard to recruit postdocs and grad students? Are any UK or EU scientists now reluctant to move to US? Please contact me at cdwoolston @ gmail.

We can all use a chance to unplug and unwind, but here’s the rub: Recovery from work tends to be the most difficult and elusive for those who need it most. For workers feeling burned out on the job, there’s a science to recovery. NEW by @cdwoolston: knowablemagazine.org/article/societ…

PhD and master's degree students: Please consider taking this @nature survey. We designed the questions to get at the heart of the graduate student experience. The survey runs through July 18. We'd love to hear from you. nature.com/articles/d4158…

@EssmannJeff Good luck Jeff. I was hoping to go up there this weekend. The road must be completely inundated.

Despite being highlighted in @Nature and @ScienceMagazine - @UF will only raise Biology PhD by $559.5 (all stipends by 3% after not raising them since 2017). This doesn't even cover the cost of fees for a single semester. @uf_gau

@mkirchner_ants Well deserved! I had no idea Science was working on a similar story, but it’s not surprising. I’m just glad the issue is getting so much attention.

@ThosVarley @Nature I did mention the hard work of negotiators at NC State and Florida, but you're right--there are many other unions and organizers fighting for change. Perhaps this article and the dataset will give them even more momentum. Thanks for reading.

While I'm happy that @Nature is covering the appalling state of graduate stipends, I'm really disappointed by the conspicuous absence of any discussion of the recent (and on-going) strikes by graduate worker unions. Why the omission @cdwoolston? nature.com/articles/d4158…
