Great to be at #ASHG2024 , my group are presenting three posters: Diffusion autoencoding models + GWAS of cardiac MRI in 70k subjects, IPH detection in 2,500 plaques using MIL+MACE prediction and our work looking at crypt morphology variation (H&E+spatial) in healthy + IBD GI.

I have said it before - Communities and countries and ultimately the world are only as strong as the health of their women. This isn’t, and shouldn’t be a bipartisan question. Women’s rights are ultimately human rights - and it affects all of us, directly or indirectly.

I hate doing personal posts but: When my mum was dying last year, NHS data sharing failures and prioritising GDPR over pain relief repeatedly left her in agony. In desperation I began to build a Google Doc of her records linked to a QR code for doctors to scan. System's broken.

@j_foerst I met a founder recently where iirc the Oxford ecosystem had taken 60% of her company at pre-seed and she then wasted the best part of a year sorting it out. The stream of anecdotes like this has slowed, but certainly not stopped. Cambridge & Imperial much much better.

This is a saddening thing to see 2024. Not because the Nobel laureates aren’t brilliant, have made breathtaking discoveries. I warmly congratulate them and am in awe. And as a woman the systematic chronic inequality this represents is sometimes hard to carry with grace.
