This is abhorrent. The US has sent 30,000 barrels of oil exclusively to private businesses in Cuba. Meanwhile, thousands of patients in Cuban hospitals are at risk of dying during blackouts. Tens of thousands are on surgery waitlists.
While we are encouraged by signs of progress in Venezuela, much work remains and the country is still not safe for return. That’s why I signed a discharge petition to advance the Venezuela TPS Act that would extend protections for Venezuelans in the U.S. for an additional 18 months so they can remain and work legally while conditions continue to evolve. This is about doing what’s right, standing with those who fled repression and making sure Congress acts.
Underdiscussed aspect of what is happening in Cuba is a deliberate US push to crush the Cuban state specifically, while working to create a class of private oligarchs that can contest for political power on the island in the coming years.

I am incredibly proud of Isra and everyone who made the trip to Cuba. They took tons of aid to make sure the people of Cuba knew that there are so many people across the world who stand in solidarity with them. Cuba has always sent aid to countries in need and has trained thousands of physicians across the world, including my childhood physician. @israhirsi is more than just my daughter, she is a brilliant young leader who has always worked hard to advocate for a more just world. She inspires me and so many people with her leadership and dedication. I am forever fortunate to have her as my daughter but I am even more fortunate to know her as the unflinching justice warrior for justice she is. #letcubalive
