Haemorrhoids is something that has happened to a loved one of mine and I never wish it on anybody.
A lot of people don’t realize this, but your phone can quietly contribute to developing problems like haemorrhoids.
You go to the toilet, take your phone with you “just for a minute.” One scroll turns into 10 minutes, then 20. Before you know it, you’ve trained your body into a very bad habit: sitting on the toilet for far too long.
Here’s the problem.
The toilet seat isn’t designed for comfort, it puts pressure directly on the veins around your rectum. The longer you sit there, especially when you’re not actively going, the more strain you’re putting on those veins. Over time, that pressure builds up and can lead to haemorrhoids.
People joke about haemorrhoids like it’s a small issue… until they actually have it.
This isn’t just “a little discomfort.” Haemorrhoids can genuinely mess with your daily life in ways people don’t talk about enough.
It can start mild, a bit of itching or discomfort. But as it progresses, it becomes something else entirely. Sitting down becomes painful. Walking can feel uncomfortable. Even using the toilet turns into a nightmare
Then there’s the bleeding. Imagine going to the toilet and seeing blood not once, but repeatedly. It’s scary, stressful, and mentally draining, even if you know what’s causing it.
And for some people, it goes beyond that.
Severe haemorrhoids can:
•Swell to the point where they protrude outside the body
•Cause intense pain that affects sleep and daily activities
•Lead to infections or clotting (thrombosed haemorrhoids), which are extremely painful
•Require medical procedures and in some cases, surgery
Crazy thing is, it doesn’t go away on its own. It can stay for years and years with lots of medication and no changes.
Best way is to just prevent it!
