Well...kids surprised me and picked up Dilly Dilly and placed him in basement! Flashbacks to a special day in the woods! Won’t forget that day outdoors anytime soon!

On our last day here a VERY proud dad moment occurred. With the encouragement & expertise of our incredible PH, our daughter got her very first big game animal. Words can’t express the emotions, so proud of my girl on a perfectly placed shot on a beautiful white Blesbuck.

Everything is so lush in IL! For the drought conditions that have been too consistent in the fall in our area, working on placing a few water holes in some shaded, pinchy areas!

Farm chores = checking a few cams! Deer we’re pretty familiar with is off to great start!

62 trips around the sun & so blessed to spend this birthday with my family in Africa. I’ve always wanted a beautiful Sable bull & this prince of Africa definitely didn’t disappoint! They have great Impala as well. This is a terrific safari outfitter.

Last year the wife said “ the only damn way you’re goin back to Africa is if I’m goin with you”. I said “honey, pack your bags for a safari! “. Wheels up today , STL -Newark, Johannesburg tonight. South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls. Be home June 1.

@champbuck That's a giant neck! I think something like semi or full sneak would show it off?

Taxidermist got hide back yesterday on last years bow buck, BB, and mentioned top 3 girth on neck in all his years at 25”. I’m thinking he’s oldest deer I’ve been fortunate enough to take at 7. Any thoughts on mount that would show neck size best?

@BessDbess He’s gonna use a muley form yet just trying to think through what pose/style on mount may do the neck justice.🤷🏼‍♂️

@champbuck The half mount was 8.5 /9.5 and he had a 28.5 inch neck. Mule deer insert. The super sneak is another good one to show that neck off

That’s a wrap on my 2026 turkey season. Three states, five weeks, four gobblers , and a bearded hen! Was a blast for sure, gonna try for another species next year god willing.

That was an intense hunt this morning! He came through the woods gobbling the whole way. Looking for the hen he thought he heard. At one point he stood behind me 10 yards away and gobbled. 😮🦃 Worked around to my front. 20-25 yard shot. 2 year old. 3/4" spurs. 9" beard. 19 lbs.

It is pretty near perfect turkey hunting weather. Cool temperatures. A mix of sun and clouds. Very little wind. I hadn't seen turkeys in the field behind my house for quite a while but there's a big strutter back there for the last 30 to 45 minutes. And I have to go to work. 🤦‍♀️😂
