@AmirrrUT @goldbossed @stanly14 @GuillemBalague They are having a horrid season, one of the worst defending champs in history and getting thumped left and right so just trying to deflect by piling it on us on purpose. He understood perfectly what Guillem meant but is being obtuse and taking it word for word on purpose.

The treble/quadruple Arsenal talk started in January if not before That's setting an impossible bar that's been reached almost never in football history. If they win the Premier League, that IS a massive success. Reaching the CL quarter-finals, on the back of the semis last year, IS success. They are growing. Comparing them to the greatest sides in history and then criticise them every time they fall short, more than holding them to high standards, is IMO just a way to deny them credit for what they're actually achieving. Having said that, today is certainly a disappointment. Both statements are true.

@goldbossed @stanly14 @GuillemBalague No one asked the opinion of a cuckpool fan. You didnt understand what he meant, someone whose first language isnt English. No one called reaching the QF a success standalone. If its alongside a PL title then yes it is factually better than 2nd place and semis last yr you wanker.

@stanly14 @GuillemBalague There is a reason he first mentions winning the PL before talking about the UCL. Dont be obtuse for the sake of it. The only success criteria for arsenal this season is winning the PL. Anything more is a bonus.

@chand1995 @GuillemBalague That’s not what he said. He said winning the Premier League is a massive success. He then said already reaching QF of champions league is a success, when it clearly isn’t.

@stanly14 @GuillemBalague You are ignoring the important caveat of it being ALONGSIDE a Prem title. Without winning the league title of course its not a successful campaign to just get to the quarters. Don't care if rivals agree or not, The most important aim for us this season is the Prem title. End of.

@GuillemBalague A successful champions league campaign for any team is a minimum semi-final. Less than that it is not successful. PSG go out in the QF is that a Success? No, it definitely isn’t. And Arsenal play sporting in QF… Come on Guillem

@afcDW No I want a revenge at Wembley be it in the semis or Finals. Carabao was their cup. FA cup is our cup.

@Arnab_Speaketh @nonewthing The one position arteta has absolutely rinsed our players is the midfield because he wont use players of a lower quality that he doesnt trust there. Which makes it equal priority to the LW for me. RB is the least priority for me. Jesus replacement will be someone young.

@chand1995 @nonewthing Elliot, being young & English, will be expensive. That will cut down our budget for an elite LW, a RB and may be another attacker, if possible. Also, Elliot being in the radar of other big clubs will make him even more harder to get.

MLS has a unique combination of personality & athleticism that is rare to find, but it needs to be said, in a midfield role, MLS has a lot to do. MLS is a B2B player, but a B2B player must be able to impact the opponent's box like you see Declan Rice or Nico O’Reilly or Ilkay Gundogan do. This often requires physical size to dominate aerial and ground situations + a sense for movement & space in the final 3rd. A B2B player must also be proficient at defending the middle. Again, physicality + a sense for space matters here. MLS can certainly learn how to move better without the ball and he has enough athleticism to be able to contribute in both 3rds. The problem for him is that Arsenal have Declan Rice there who is the most valuable B2B player on the planet. Also, a B2B player needs a metronome or playmaker for a partner. Since the job description of this metronome is to help play football, the demand for physicality on them is not as much. The emphasis then shifts to the B2B partner to provide the physicality to compensate. Two things matter most for physicality in this role: aerial duels & running power to eat up ground when running back. Guardiola has proven that you can manage a little without the running power to eat up ground if you can at least win your aerial battles. It means you only have one weakness you can cover for and you can do that by sustaining possession in the opponent's half and reducing the amount of transitions that is possible for the opponent. This is what he achieved with Busquets & Iniesta/Rodri & Gundogan. In other words, if you do what Chelsea did and field a Caicedo & Enzo, you are in a lot of trouble defensively. Only one player has the legs to defend and neither are aerially great. For Arsenal, this means MLS needs to be partnered with a Rodri for top-level consistency in midfield. While Zubimendi is aerially competitive for his size, it would not do to have two relatively short players in the middle consistently. Even at City, they are seeing their best results nowadays with a Rodri-Nico O’Reilly pairing, with both providing aerial competitiveness and Nico providing the legs for the defensive transitions. Pep Guardiola himself cannot undo the athletic rules of the sport. In totality, MLS is unable to play in midfield because he is still developing crucial characteristics of movement impact in both offensive & defensive scenarios while not having enough physicality to compensate for a playmaker. Now, these characteristics of box-impact & athletic compensation for a partner are not as needed at left back. In fact, in terms of his decent defensive baseline, his ability to carry the ball and find a pass, he delivers a total value superior to many left-backs as you can see in his games against Real Madrid and PSG. The problem is that Arsenal have Riccardo Calafiori who matches MLS on-ball value and is superior physically at leftback. Calafiori also has more traditional qualities of cross delivery and overlapping quality that makes him even more valuable. Piero Hincapie on the other hand is a traditional leftback with power and pace for the outside while also being superior physically. In other words, Myles Lewis Skelly has —Declan Rice & Mikel Merino ahead of him at B2B LCM. —Riccardo Calafiori & Piero Hincapie ahead of him at LB He doesn't have the baseline to get the crucial minutes he needs for box-impact development as a midfielder and as a left back, Calafiori is at least better than him. Without injuries, Arsenal need to either loan him out or sell for a surplus.

@GeorgeV_AFC @AFCStudMuffin69 Any chance we transition him back to CB as the Saliba backup and buy Livramento? Mosquera LCB. Hincapie and Calafiori LBs. Seems like a great solution but don't see White accepting to remain as a backup again. White's passing and carries from CB is underrated.

@pitchkillerx @femooafc Vardy didnt even start playing senior football until 25 or 26. Look at how clinical and well rounded Welbeck has become. He would have been the best striker in the league if he had this 10 yrs ago. Some players are just late bloomers or have shorter peaks at a late age.

@Charzo_12 @TikiTakaConnor @ronnieug7 I mean if they get a pts deduction and that allows us to rest players in the league and concentrate on the fa cup and UCL to win the treble I wouldn't mind that😆 They are already out of the UCL too so that would be a fair and square win.

@GeorgeV_AFC @cmbftbl @___Nans Signals a clear shift in approach. We are going fo readymade prime age players to win now. The occasional Mosquera might be signed but atleast 1 or 2 marquees a season will happen.

@GeorgeV_AFC I think this is just the media's speculation of how things are at Arsenal. Garlick, Berta and Arteta are both at the same level in the hierarchy. One runs the club, one runs the recruitment at all levels, and the other runs the first team. All of them answer to Josh.

I feel our understanding of the off the pitch hierarchy needs to be re evaluated- more than justified to have Mikel lead given what he’s done to build us but this is a truly traditional model of manager is the club vs modern times.
Telegraph Football@TeleFootball

So much has changed since Mikel Arteta arrived at Arsenal in December 2019. He is a man that craves control on and off the pitch. However, this is his club now and the next 10 weeks shimmer with more promise than at any point in the last two decades. @SamWallaceTel and @SamJDean have more ⬇️ telegraph.co.uk/football/2026/… #AFC | #Arsenal

@ArsenalHotTakes @LeGrove Strongest league doesnt mean 10th or 15th placed team in this league just goes and beats the 1st or 2nd placed team in other leagues in a knockout tie. Strongest league means most representation in the knockout stage. Basically too good for most teams in the league stage. Dats it

@GeorgeV_AFC How much of this fluid passing we are seeing this game is down to White and last game down to Calafiori George? Feel like Timber and Hincapie pairing limits our buildup so much. White and Hincapie or Calafiori and timber seems to be the perfect pairing.

Good. Clubs like Everton and Forest should sue the PL for this kind of backhanded dealings to give Chelsea such a lenient punishment for systematic cheating over a decade. Its embarrassing how much of the PL years is dominated by the 2 cheating clubs.
