Quai core devs have found a way to make the relationship between number of execution shards and time to global consensus, which was previously exponential, sublinear. This means that as Quai adds execution shards, time-to-settlement will not grow nearly as quickly as originally thought. EXAMPLE: 3 Region, 9 Zone ontology (3x3): ~300s to get included in a Region, ~3000s to get included in Prime (global consensus). Total time to achieve global consensus = ~3300. If Quai grows to a 4 Region, 16 Zone ontology (4x4): ~400s to get included in a region, ~4000s to get included in Prime. Total time to achieve global consensus = ~4400. Quai can grow like this infinitely to support commerce-scale throughput. The increase in time to global settlement is the only tradeoff to adding execution threads. Every other protocol requires a tradeoff to decentralization or security in some capacity to increase tps; Quai, in contrast, can nearly double throughput (9 -> 16 execution threads) in-flight, with the only change being that global (Prime) consensus now takes ~4400 seconds to achieve as opposed to ~3300.
