@chanelfernandes That's correct, if the foreign tax is more than the UK tax it's to be offset against, we cannot refund tax deducted by another country. Steve

@HMRCcustomers are you able to carry forward foreign tax credit to the next year? I.e. income tax paid to a different country while self employed, can you carry the offset forward to next year?

@HMRCcustomers In the event of not there not being enough uk tax due to offset the foreign tax, is it just tough luck? Or is there a way to claim back overpaid tax? Thanks. Sorry I do appreciate this is quite specific.

@chanelfernandes Thanks for waiting, You can only claim foreign tax credit relief in the year the foreign tax was paid. It can not be carried forward. Tom

@chanelfernandes Thanks for waiting, You must tick the box on the foreign page to say you wish to claim foreign tax credit relief then there is a section further on in the tax return where you need to actually claim the relief. Steve
