@rafaellashima It's true that in a biotech role, you'll generally have less freedom to pursue topics unless they are related to the company/team's mission and objectives. I'd focus on finding roles that align with your interests, so your questions can be geared toward that.

@charbo25 Which kinds of questions would bring insight/allow me to identify what the learning opportunities are in terms of scientific projects and flexibility in that sense? I hear a lot that in industry you don’t have a lot freedom to explore your topic of interest.

I was recently invited to join a panel on careers in the biotech industry, and I noticed common themes to the questions from students / postdocs who are considering next steps. I think it would be useful to share my perspective on some of those questions more broadly. A 🧵...

There’s probably a lot you don’t know about the industry yet (there’s still a ton I don’t know either) -- that’s ok! Your experiences and your story are valuable, even if they don’t line up exactly with what you see on job descriptions.

Question: “What advice would you give a fresh graduate considering a move to biotech?” Be kind to yourself. Be authentic, ask questions, and be proud of everything you’ve accomplished to get where you are.
