ME: If you invest $287 per month starting at age 27, you should have $1 million by the time you're 67. COMMENTER: $1 million is not enough. ME: Then you will need to invest more. COMMENTER: Some people can't afford to invest that much. ME: Agreed, the key is to invest what you can and give it as much time as possible to grow. COMMENTER: What's the point if you can't invest enough to retire? ME: The point is to give your future self extra money that would be very difficult to accumulate in a short amount of time. COMMENTER: Inflation will make that $1 million feel like $100k by then. ME: Do you want the $1 million or not? COMMENTER: I'm going to find a better use for my money. ME: 😓

And the rep I am talking to seems to not know what is going on. Not very sympathetic and still hasn’t confirmed they sent the email or can even see the transaction. No idea what is going on here.

It’s nonsense. Over 50% of our clients are homeschool families. I see even more with pro bono work. From seeing actual spending (not just what people say), homeschool does not require upper middle class income. I’ve seen spending anywhere from $200 to $20,000 per child per year. It has much more to do with family choices than anything else. Related, Ive seen public school families spend more on activity fees at “free” public school than some homeschool families spend in a year.

A silly goose with "a degree in economics" who is running for a sheriff position (scary) thinks you can only responsibly homeschool with a household income of $100K+. That has NEVER been my family 🤷🏻‍♀️ - poor folks can homeschool just fine. I would love for this guy to sit across from me and explain how I'm an irresponsible homeschooler because of our yearly income. 😂 That's why I provide free homeschool resources worldwide to amazing parent educators. Never let people like this make you feel less than. Your children can have a world class education with FREE resources. They need love and involved parents. It's not about money. You've got this and you've got a village behind you. ❤️

This my 16 year-old son who is homeschooled and also plays basketball for the school we’re zoned for. He was starting point guard as a sophomore. I think he’s doing ok. Homeschool your kids.

Homeschooling should be illegal. “But I teach my kids better than the state!” Doesn’t matter, the primary purpose of elementary/middle school isn’t to teach it’s to socialize your kid. You can’t do that alone. And this isn’t even mentioning how it can be used to abuse kids

I just left traffic court with one of teenagers. She was going 35 in a 30 mph zone and wanted it off her record. Of the 11 cases before us 10 of them were people driving without insurance. I was shocked. Do people just not get insurance anymore?

I have a rule: If one of my little people asks me to pick them up, I do it unless I absolutely can’t. I do this, because I realized a while back that one of those times will be the very last time—and sooner than I think. Already gone for half my kids.

If the requirements was a bachelors degree in finance, financial planning, etc. I would be in favor of the requirement. As it exists now, the board believes someone with 20 years of operations (or other relevant) experience is less qualified than someone with 3 years of experience and an exercise science degree. The status quo is the mushy middle.

Man... I have SUCH mixed feelings about this one. Ultimately, I think the decision needs to be driven by the CFP Board's broader, long-term vision for the marks. If the Board wants the marks to show someone has demonstrated a minimum level of acceptable competence to work with clients and provide financial advice, then I say scrap the (any) Bachelor's degree requirement. Notably, the "minimum" here does not have to be (and should not) be miniMAL." But by definition, there has to be a minimum at some point. On the other hand, if the goal of the CFP Board is to move public perception of CFP Professionals closer to that of other professionals (e.g., CPAs, attorneys), then I think the CFP Board should keep the Bachelor's degree requirement, but ensure that either the major, or a sufficient number of credits, were earned in a planning-related or planning-adjacent field (e.g., financial planning, economics, mathematics, psychology). For what it's worth, my undergrad work did not include the necessary coursework to allow me to sit for my CPA exam. So, I ended up going back to school to get my Master's in Accounting... not because I wanted the Master's degree, but because I wanted to be able to sit for the CPA exam and become a CPA. In the end, my guess is that the CFP Board chooses to jettison the Bachelor's degree requirement. Simply put, the number of potential CFP candidates significantly increases if you remove that requirement, and I think the allure of that untapped market ultimately proves too strong for the Board to ignore. Curious to hear from others on this. What do you think? "Do CFPs need bachelor's degrees? It's now up for debate." financial-planning.com/news/cfp-board…
