He was GREAT on NBC, honestly one of the more inventive late night hosts in that era, but the whole Leno thing made him into a crybaby. After that it was a slow decline. A lot like Conan. But he honestly had better highs on the spinoff than Conan did to trade off. But Dave never recovered mentally from Leno's Hugh Grant moment. He stayed solid for a while but the edge was gone and he was just cruising. But once he got to Dubya and on it was downhill, same for the blackmail scandal. That hurt him a lot trust wise with the audience. He shoulda took NBC's offer up. They supposedly asked him in 1990 what he wanted when he got renewed but he acted like he didn't care, but he wanted the Tonight Show job. Could he have done well? Yes, but also I loved Leno's TS, it was very down to earth and perfect for middle America. It's what late night misses now.

@MayberryHustler My grandpa LOVED Letterman. I did too. But somewhere even at the end of his thing he ended up just being a Bush basher and the funny stuff was at a minimum

100%, your right :) Fallon especially, if he'd quit the lame 5-10 minutes of political jokes a night and just talk about culture in his monologues, he'd gain so many people back. Also quit allowing hacky guests on too. It's like my mom said, she's always loved him since the 90's: "Damn it I loved Jimmy, but he stabbed his audience in the back for brownie points." Nothing but the truth. Kimmel's never gonna do that, he's gonna drown and try to play a martyr over it. ABC coulda fixed it all last year but they cowarded out, they deserve that failure. CBS MAY do okay if the Allen shows stay focused and offer what your wanting, but I found the first ep's guests so annoying I tuned out. I'll try again tomorrow or Tuesday and see.

I mean, I agree I just think if people still came out and TRIED to attract audiences of all shapes and sizes (isn't that the point of business?) wouldn't these number be essentially double? About half the country just totally tuned out to shows like this because they were so slanted

It's INSANE to look at, especially the Tonight Show :(. Colbert's rating fall makes sense because he was always a one trick pony and he inherited a dying show, Letterman lost all his power after 95 year by year, and never recovered besides the dip TS had after the Conan deal. But all that money CBS wasted.. holy cow! I doubt Allen will make any goodwill back, ? is how long it'll last before it's cancelled. I'll be surprised it makes it long. Kimmel's rating is what it is because ABC's always had weaker affiliates. They did in the 70's with Dick Cavett (WAY superior show btw,) and they still do now. Tonight Show has no excuse. NBC's affiliates have always been a strong help to it , well minus when Leno's 10 PM show was on and they have always been consistent. But Fallon's dip is what happens when you murder the goodwill with the audience. People tuned in wanting sketch esque comedy and he had such an inventive vibe back then. But like Trump said best, he sold out and became a wimp. Also that abuse scandal really killed his rep. If he'd quit being so lefty he'd maybe get the ratings lead again, but I doubt it.

There’s a great story about when Clinton Portis was severely hungover before a game. He was going to tell Mike Shanahan he couldn’t play. Shannon Sharpe stopped him and made him run sprints till he threw up. Portis rushed for 228 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Makes me really sad for Pop. A truly great coach with a generational player that 10 years after no longer "working" together is still by his side.
Tim Duncan is imo a top 5 all time player. He wasn't flashy, didn't do sneaker deals, didn't do commercials.. he just won.
