@MekanizmaHaber Soviet state planners issued chandelier factories their quotas in tons, not units, so workers responded by putting lead weights in the chandeliers to more easily meet the quotas. Then people would die when the chandeliers inevitably fell from the ceiling due to excessive weight.

@GBNEWS @GoodwinMJ @sebastiansalek When the guy suggests the EU as a credible alternative to the US, that’s when the plane started losing altitude. Imagine thinking Brussels is the answer to your problems!?!? At least if he said China, it would be a realistic, albeit terrifying, alternative to American hegemony.

@yieldsearcher @GaryHaubold This is not the message imo. Earnings are usually a sell event in defense because you know the top line and it’s just a question of whether there are neg EACs that hit profits. There’s also concern that a Dem sweep will endanger Trump’s plan for defense budget growth.

As someone who regularly buys eight tickets at a time, I’m grateful to see this. We can’t afford to be snobs about airlines. The JetBlue merger was stopped by the Biden admin. The war has doubled the price of jet fuel. I’m not a fan of most bailouts. This makes sense to me.

I'm very impressed by the way Denmark has been responding to out Greenland bullshit. Very deft balancing act between blocking Trump's thuggery, yet limiting the damage by not making THE RESISTANCE into their new identity. Not easy, given the probable feelings of their electorate

@ratlpolicy The claim he's discussing is also not accurate. Why is he amplifying regime propaganda? So he's being sarcastic about something that he, as a member of the Senate, could easily determine is not true.

The idea that this is sarcastic would be believable if it wasn't coming from a guy who had repeatedly spouted Iranian regime talking points, promoted pro-Iran policies, & met with Iranian leaders behind the administration's back. x.com/i/status/20465…

Ok Twitter, I can’t believe I need to clarify this but obviously Trump’s bungled mismanagement of this war is not “awesome”. As I have said a million times here, it’s a disaster and he should end the war immediately. My tweet was something called “sarcasm”.

I cannot tell you how much of a disaster this is. This is literally a tier 1 disaster. These units take many many years of building up of skill, expertise, comradery. A lot of stuff gets passed down soldier to soldier. These guys are basically world class athletes, only their sport is war. Rebuilding this is painstakingly hard, the devastation to western special forces from these guys, which are our frontline soldiers against almost every small scale threat other than peer conflict. It cannot be overstated how much of a problem this is. I support almost anything in reversing this.

🚨EXCLUSIVE🚨 SAS soldiers are resigning in significant numbers over fears they will be subjected to “witch hunts” by human-rights lawyers. Multiple sources have claimed that personnel from across 22 SAS, the Army’s most elite fighting force, have applied for premature voluntary release. The Telegraph is withholding the exact figure for security reasons. However, several SAS sources have described the recent losses as “significant” and a “threat to national security”. At least two squadrons, D and G, are believed to have been affected, with insiders saying outrage over recent war crime probes into Afghanistan and Syria, which have been branded “witch hunts”, are believed to be the main driving forces. Among those understood to have resigned include several senior warrant officers, who are the backbone of the special forces and among the most experienced troops in the regiment. A number are understood to have applied for release “on principle” just before Christmas. “Morale is s--t at the moment,” one insider with knowledge of the recent losses told me, while another said there was “considerable disquiet” in the regiment as a result. The SAS resignations are a major blow to the famed special forces unit, which is the tip of the spear in any military operation and is deployed globally. Full story: telegraph.co.uk/gift/ee5ad8ccb…

From @amitsegal. He’s a very good source on what looks to be a lousy-to-very bad deal proposed to @POTUS. Note: Nothing on removal of HEU, controls on missile/drone production/proxies/basic freedom for Iranian people like access to internet: “Despite the posturing, a senior official confirmed to me that a six-point outline is currently under discussion between the United States and Iran. The proposed framework includes: 1A 15-year suspension of enrichment. The United States originally demanded a 20-year freeze, while Tehran pushed for significantly less; the two sides eventually settled on 15. 2Pre-existing stockpiles of enriched uranium will be down-blended and converted into uranium gas. This essentially resets Iran to the starting line of the enrichment process. Coupled with the fact that almost all of its centrifuges are either damaged or buried under thousands of tons of rubble, re-enrichment becomes significantly harder. However, this mechanism means the uranium won’t necessarily leave Iranian soil, which remains a major concern for Israel. 3Nuclear facilities will be opened to inspections, which will likely be conducted by U.S. representatives rather than the IAEA. 4The Strait of Hormuz will be reopened to all commercial traffic, without an Iranian toll booth. 5A formal end to the war, a guarantee against further hostilities, and the withdrawal of American forces from the Gulf. 6A phased lifting of economic sanctions.”

Exclusive: The Royal Navy has not seized any sanctioned Russian oil tankers because of concerns in Whitehall that the cost of berthing and maintaining the vessels could reach tens of millions of pounds Sir Keir Starmer pledged last month to “go after” Russian tankers flying false flags. Under his plans the vessels can be boarded by special forces and officers from the National Crime Agency However, no operations have taken place due to a dispute in government over where the vessels should be held and which department will pay for them. The Department for Transport has been accused of “dragging its feet” Officials have highlighted the case of a Panamanian-registered ship called the MV Matthew, which was seized by the Irish authorities in September 2023. More than 2.2 tonnes of cocaine worth €157 million was on board. Maintenance, security and berthing of the vessel has so far cost more than £10 million thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

Amit Segal@AmitSegal

This is the outline currently under discussion between the United States and Iran. I am sharing this with caution, as it hasn’t been agreed upon yet, but based on recent developments, these are the points they have been discussing: A 15-year suspension of uranium enrichment. The United States originally demanded 20 years, while the Iranians wanted much less; they eventually settled on 15. The plan includes converting uranium into fuel, which changes its physical state and makes it harder to re-enrich. While not a simple process, this means the uranium won't necessarily leave Iran, which is a major concern for Israel. Full inspection of nuclear sites and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz are, of course, a given. The deal would also include ending the war, the withdrawal of American forces from the Gulf, and the lifting of economic sanctions. It must be said that, aside from the uranium, the lifting of sanctions is what worries Israel the most. As you recall, the strategic goal of the war was to create the conditions for the regime’s downfall. The regime was in danger of collapsing due to an economic situation that deteriorated primarily because of those sanctions; if they are lifted, the regime is strengthened. Therefore, it seems to me that the perception in Israel remains that the status quo is preferable—a state of "no war, no peace" where U.S. military forces remain on standby in the Persian Gulf. But as we have learned, this does not depend solely on Israel's desires, to put it mildly.

(Reuters) - Canada's close ties to the United States were once a strength but have become a weakness, Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Sunday, in a video message to his country in which he also ‌praised the heroism of military leaders who fought against U.S. invasion more than two centuries ago. Holding up a small toy soldier depiction of General Isaac Brock, the British military leader who died defending what is now Canada from a U.S. invasion in the War of 1812, Carney said Canada can't control the disruption coming from its U.S. neighbors, and can't bet its future on the hope that it will suddenly stop. "The situation today feels unique, but we've faced down threats like this before," Carney said, referencing Brock and several other Canadian historical figures, including Chief Tecumseh who united Indigenous Nations across the Great Lakes to resist U.S. expansion in 1812.
