I just hate this framing. The USMNT players agreed to a deal no one else on the planet has ever agreed to, showing solidarity to the women’s team when FIFA won’t, and some folks on here turn around and roast their relative lack of success as a result. That sucks, man.

"The President and Infantino did speak, and the President wanted to better understand the reason why a red card was given and why there was a suspension. Interesting point on the Balogun situation that’s gone unnoticed:
Jenny Taft and now the NY Post are reporting that FIFA was already reviewing the red card (protocol?) before Trump made any calls, and that the USSF was threatening to go to CAS over the issue…
Entirely possible that Trump swooped in and took credit at the last minute, certainly not out of the ordinary for him

This makes a mockery of the whole tournament. If the USMNT win, Belgium will have every right to feel cheated, meanwhile the USA’s victory - by their best ever generation of players - will forever be tainted by accusations of favouritism and corruption. It’s bad for everyone.
