“The senses are not given us to furnish us with a complete knowledge of things, but to direct us in the affairs of life, and to point out to us those objects which are useful or hurtful; and it is by reflection that we discover the laws of nature and the attributes of the Deity.”

@ricksapp DeSantis on deck (🙏) The only current contender I see out there who really gets this and will shove it down Congress’ throats (the way I read the situation right now) Just **one** successful Article V push… to open the flood gates to more… I see DeSantis doing it

3/3 The early 1980s was the last time a president made real federalism, structural devolution of power back to the states, a central governing program. Since then, the uni-party in Washington has kept expanding federal power, and the States have been too willing to go along.

1/3 "It'll only work if we have people in State government who believe in federalism, who believe as the Constitution says that certain powers are reserved to the States and the people, and not to an all-powerful central government." — Ronald Reagan, October 27, 1981

Oliver Scott Curry (“Morality as Cooperation”) describes part of the machinery of society. Ferenc Hörcher (“Politics as Moral Inheritance” - paraphrasing) is concerned with the soul of society.

Norway should have won. Good for England fans to continue their delusions into another round. Argentina will beat France in the final. And then most people who only watch this ever four years will go back to wasting time some other way. Messi gets another cinderella moment first.

Norway's national team has already been invited to meet the King of Norway. Not to be criticised, but to be thanked and honoured for what they achieved. The team lands back in Oslo on Monday morning, where the whole country will be waiting to welcome them home. They may be out of the World Cup, but they return as heroes!

@HorcherF Helpful context! Scruton’s use of Spengler works best when we remember that the Kultur–Zivilisation distinction belongs to a specifically German philosophical vocabulary, not a timeless conceptual framework. Elias is an excellent guide here.

The distinction of culture and civilization is an obsession of late 19th, early 20th century German philosophy. See Elias about the British, Frnech and German understanding of these two terms.
Mark W.@DurhamWASP

“‘The West’, Spengler argued, has come to its end, as every culture must. We have now entered the period of mere ‘civilization’, when administration and technology take over from the flowering of the spirit in its summer forms...” Sir Roger Scruton

78 church attacks across Europe in just six months of 2026, arson, vandalism, desecrations. Authorities barely arrested anyone. It's getting worse. We all know who's behind it. This wasn't Europe before. What should be done about this?

@wesyang @BillboardChris A government upholding extreme individualism dissolves the distinction between subjective desire and objective reality. Once the self becomes the highest authority, society is expected to conform. Subjectivism inevitably becomes coercion.

@wesyang @BillboardChris Radical individualism inevitably ends in coercion. Once subjective identity is elevated above objective reality, everyone else is compelled to affirm it. Subjectivism ceases to be personal freedom and becomes a political demand enforced on the entire community.

Transgenderism is an uncontrolled society-scaled experiment in conformity and obedience: a test of how far you can make people parrot absurdities, inflict cruelties, collude with unrealities, and ostracize and punish people for things they do not themselves believe. It is a test of whether the moral self-abasements and routine betrayals that occurred in the Soviet Bloc with its secret police and political prisons and armies of informants could be replicated in liberal, democratic, and pluralistic societies that lacked this formal apparatus of repression: whether minor rewards and punishments could force people to punish people for stating the most self-evident of all truths and inspire them to cheer on the chemical castration and dismemberment of their own children. It is a test of whether civil liberties organization could be twisted into instruments of state repression and human rights groups instruments of defamation and violence against women. It is a test that most of the Western world is failing.

I think we would be surprised at how many people would quietly start to come out in support, if they were given “permission” by the public figures they rely on to open Overton Windows for them. That is pathetic, cowardly, lazy, & self-interested, because they are often consumed with how they appear to the people around them, rather than forming their own opinions & standing by their own beliefs, but it is the reality of many of our fellow citizens. If they feel they have “permission” to support initiatives that protect the rights & dignity of females, I think the minority of vocal, unreasonable & zealous lunatics who’ve pushed this madness on us would start be increasingly marginalized, finding themselves with less power to shape the public discourse & public consciousness over the trans issue. I have myself experienced a few people who quietly, discreetly told me they agree with me that women & girls should have their own sports & spaces, but they would never tell other people. It was only after I experienced social punishment for expressing my opinions that they briefly mumbled they “kind of agreed.” People are cowards. They are afraid to form & stand by their own beliefs because they value social standing more than personal autonomy & the integrity that comes with being principled; more comfortable instead with social consensus & being included in the group. But, if the conversation shifts publicly, lead by people who are safer to express public opinions, the tide will change.

@ricksapp To do that, the judicial tyranny must be overthrown. I don't see any will to do so in our federal government by either party. Congress could restrict the appellate jurisdiction of the courts but chooses not to. It has become like impeachment: politically impossible.

@ricksapp 2/3 TJ’s chief concerns are the absence of a Bill of Rights, indefinite presidential re-election, and limiting executive power. That seems to distinguish him somewhat from many Anti-Federalists, whose principal concern was the consolidation of the states.

Hilarious from Petrarch because true: “I won’t pass over in silence what everyone knows but pretends to not know: There’s no virus more poisonous to the peaceful life of the mind than the company of women. Pleasant peace and a woman rarely dwell under the same roof.”
