India’s GI-tagged products are steadily expanding their presence in global markets. On 18 February 2026, 0.5 MT of GI-tagged Salem Sago was exported from Salem to Canada, marking the first direct export consignment by a GI Authorized User since its GI registration in March 2023. The shipment was carried out by Salem Starch and Sago Manufacturers’ Service Industrial Cooperative Society Limited (SAGOSERVE), which supports 334 manufacturers and local farmers.
