So, I installed a fresh Linux (Pop OS) yesterday... and I'm doing it again... I'm currently tweaking the colour of a theme I downloaded to get it juuust right.
This will escalate until I have to reinstall the whole thing.
Found this figure in a phrenolo... I mean ML paper in 2023. It's named:
"Using deep learning to predict ideology from facial photographs [...]"
It might be pseudoscience dressed in math clothes, but at least I now know how this "cropping" works.
@skepteis@andrewwhite01@AlexeyAOrlov@NatRevChem That is not what seems to be happening, seriously. The OS models keep catching up at an amazing speed, for cheap. Perhaps I am overly optimistic. But I am willing tol bet a fancy dinner on it. Lemme know of you're up for it.
@andrewwhite01@AlexeyAOrlov@NatRevChem 1/n
Going with the example of converting "ethanol" to COO, or COO to a mol file, an issue I see is that currently, I use a non-proprietary tool that, if it fails, I can easily fix myself or find a simple workaround. Due to the advantages of open source, this tool has become
I wrote a short opinion piece about the impact of large language models in chemistry that came out today in @NatRevChem! I cover agents, hallucinations, XAI, and what I think is next - would love to hear what others think!

@drGregBowman@shozeb_haider Zenodo hands down the best I've seen. Also, depending on the software, you don't actually need to upload the full trajectory. Most of the time a runfile that would faithfully reproduce the trajectory should be enough. Especially in the context of rerunning it in 5 or 10 years.
@shozeb_haider I like the spirit of this tweet. We upload MSMs to OSF but still haven't found a good place for TB, or even many GB, datasets. Do you have a place?
I find it odd when authors on MD papers mention that data is available on request, yet they have all sorts of excuses not to share the data. Data deposition prior to publication should be mandatory. Editors of open access journals please note. #openaccess#moleculardynamics
@skepteis It's the genius engineering of mechanical controllers/programmers that I will miss the most on the washing machines

Fascinating technology, and not enough people know about it.
Good. Now I'm waiting for makers of stoves and washing machines to realise that touchscreens make no sense on their products.

"Precise characterization of a corridor-shaped structure in Khufu’s Pyramid by observation of cosmic-ray muons"
Muons, which are produced in the atmosphere, are used to take x-ray or, well, muon images of pyramids.

@stackhodler A country that cannot protect itself from external agression (whatever the means) or a country that cannot enforce the use of its currency internally is not a country and should be rightfully wiped out. So proud of Switzerland RN.
@BenoitVianin@sebastienfanti Version courte: Oui!
@MichaelVlachos1@DissanaikeMD Of course, but skin barrer is not perfect, and cannot possibly be, considering its function. Fentanyl can cross the skin, and that's why we can make patches. Many chemicals can cross it, that's also why chemists wear gloves.
@OrenKoh@SuccessLibertia@Cobratate@elonmusk You cheated! You probably Googled it. And you also used that deobfuscating technique which consists in substituting Elon by a number in the search. How dare you? 😉
The falsely virtuous saying that @elonmusk should accept REAL TIME doxxing are disingenuous clowns.
They would panic absolutely if they were the richest most important man alive and their enemies had REAL TIME info.
Physical safety is NUMBER ONE priority.
Elon is right to ban.
@DissanaikeMD A vial contains an appropriate dose for human use diluted in a LOT of water (1:20'000 dilution typically). Obviously the solution is safe to touch. Fentanyl as a pure substance is another story. Again, just because it is 20'000 more concentrated. The dose makes the poison.
@taylerdarcyy@TateTheTalisman@Cobratate Dunno. I don't really read left wing media. So, I obviously missed that headline. Thanks for correcting. Wouldn't mind getting the source for my own education.
@chemfection@TateTheTalisman@Cobratate You completely missed the point. He specifically wrote it that way because that’s how left wing media writes their headlines. You have just proved his point lol.
Son of one of the greatest black chess masters ever, grandson of a black WWII vet, nobody could be prouder of their African American heritage than I am.
But white liberals can be programmed into believing I’m a racist because I once said men drive better than women?
The Matrix.
@engineers_feed NewPipe. Hands down. What YouTube app should always have been.
Radiodroid. Plays all the radios worldwide in a simple and efficient app.
@bye_ology@CodoAna Yes, people have done that. It is called DODT. Same stuff, but heavier and therefore non stinky. I would still suggest to work in a ventilated hood. And bleach all glassware after use.
