I still can’t fully understand this conflict between Thailand and Cambodia. In the first clash, it seemed clear to me that Cambodia fired first on a Thai village. But even after the de-escalation and ceasefires, Cambodia kept planting landmines along the border — including several in areas that Thailand considers its own territory. I don’t understand what possible reasons would lead Cambodia, which is militarily much weaker, to take such provocative stances. To me, it looks like a classic case of nationalism driving reckless, almost suicidal policies… but I’m sure some people much better informed than me will show up to explain it properly.

commander of the Preah Vihear Operational Area, has announced that 20 Cambodian soldiers were captured by Thai soldiers at around 5am on the morning of July 29. One managed to escape, while 19 were taken to Thai territory. a violation of the ceasefire by the Thai side.
