🏙️ Chicago is our city, I recently discovered an adult dating site where women take the initiative. 💬

Not enough people talk about Larry Doby • .288/.389/.499 (.888 OPS), 140 OPS+ • 9x AS, 56.7 WAR, 273 HR, 1099 RBI • 2x Champ ('46 in NNL, '48 in MLB) • Missed 1945 to serve in the Navy • Managed by Biz Mackey in 1946 • (then a 48yo player-manager!) • Hit .365 as Newark's everyday 2B • Debuted in MLB shortly after Jackie • Led in WAR, HR 2x, OPS 2x, OPS+ 3x • 1st to go straight from NNL to the bigs • Received far, far too little HOF support: • Never got more than 3.4% from BBWAA(!) • Not inducted until 1998 via Vet Committee • Reached 100 runs 3x, 30 HR 2x, 100 RBI 5x • Doby Day should be celebrated league-wide • Earned MVP votes in 4 different MLB seasons • A Garden State Pkwy rest area bears his name • First player to integrate half the parks in MLB • (Since there was no interleague at the time) • Second Black manager in MLB (1978 CWS) • Bill Veeck was a huge champion of Doby's • Joe Gordon was his first close teammate • Mentored by Tris Speaker in spring '48 • (Because Doby was converting to OF) • From his first full season in MLB through his final year with Cleveland (1948-55), Doby had the 8th-most RBI in baseball, trailing only the era's greatest sluggers and coming in ahead of HOF'ers Roy Campanella and Ted Williams
