Trump on Hegseth: Pete Hegseth was born for this role. He’s doing a great job. They gave him a hard time. Somebody came up to me yesterday and said I made a mistake. But you're doing great. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Billions in losses at American bases that will need to be rebuilt. So far this will cost taxpayers another $20bn+ Reports indicate that at least 17 U.S. sites across the Middle East have sustained damage, with 11 of those being primary military bases.

@Tintincapital Best case: Iran implodes from the inside and the US secures the strait quickly. Worst case: long, drawn out ground operation. My base case: ceasefire agreement that reopens the strait within the next two weeks.

For the US and Israel, talking about a ceasefire is just another way of saying they are running out of munitions and interceptors

@lisaabramowicz1 The illegal war conducted by the U.S. and Israel caused the high oil prices in the first place. American CEOs treat war like a corporate hostile takeover. These CEOs are insulated from the negative consequences of war. They are greedy and want to rob Iran of its resources.

BlackRock's Larry Fink: If Iran remains a threat after the bombing stops, there could be "years of above $100, closer to $150 oil, which has profound implications in the economy" and an outcome of "a probably stark and steep recession." (1/2) bbc.com/news/articles/…

BREAKING: Iran's attacks on US military bases across the Middle East have forced many American troops to "work remotely" due to "severe" damage, per NYT. Details include: 1. Many American troops have had to relocate to hotels and office spaces throughout the Middle East 2. An "exception" has been made for fighter pilots and crews operating and maintaining warplanes and conducting strikes 3. Iran has "urged people" to report these new locations to the IRGC 4. Iranian officials have accused the US of using civilians as human shields by putting American troops in hotels US officials say the damage to US bases reflects a "miscalculation."

New Zealand is on track to run out of fuel in about three weeks. First world country btw. No fuel reserves. Refineries closed down under Jacinda Ardern. Deep sea oil exploration banned under Jacinda Ardern. Jacinda Ardern and covid lockdowns. Jacinda and covid.

@gbrew24 Exaggerated Mossad story to act like they are in control of the situation. Iran is allowing certain ships to pass as a sign of goodwill to non-aggressor countries. It's intended to fracture U.S. allies.

The US is still bombing Iran. But the US is also looking for an offramp, ideally one where it can save face. So while it is bombing Iran, it is also trying to get Iran to relieve some pressure on Hormuz. And apparently Iran is obliging them--at least, per these sources.
Jacob Magid@JacobMagid

The US official tells The Times of Israel that when Washington began passing along messages to Iran through mediators over the weekend in order to test whether a diplomatic off-ramp to the war was possible, it asked Tehran to make a gesture of goodwill. (4/7)

I filled my tank Sunday hedging bets that prices would continue to rise, and I guessed wrong as Trump hinted at peace talks early Monday- which sent gas prices down a few cents here in FL since Monday. Just impossible- even for an analyst- to get the timing perfect amidst chaos.

@caitoz There could be a 4th option: the U.S. would be satisfied with an ongoing low intensity conflict. Keeps oil prices elevated to profit and sell more weapons from weapons manufacturers. And keeps oil prices high on China. The risk would be that the conflict becomes uncontrollable.

If the US were a normal country with a normal military it could just walk away from Iran whenever it wants. But because it's running an empire with military bases throughout the middle east, this war is only over when Iran says it's over. Iran can keep hitting those bases as long as it has missiles and drones to launch. Tehran knows it needs to impose severe costs on the United States or else it's just going to get bombed again in a year or two, so even if Trump "declares victory" and says the war is over it can keep hammering those bases while imposing economic costs with the Strait of Hormuz blockade for as long as it likes. Basically it appears the US has three options: 1. Dramatically escalate and find some way to secure total victory. 2. Pull out and just let Iran smash the US military bases in the region until it decides a sufficient price has been paid. 3. Completely withdraw from the middle east. All of which would come at extreme cost to the empire. We live in interesting times.
