🇺🇸 Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, said it out loud: Your kids will work 3.5 days a week. Live to 100. AI is going to cure cancer, stop car crashes, make new materials, save lives. "Life will be better." He's not a tech bro dreaming out loud. This man runs the money. Video: @clashreport

@ericweinstein I like the building cost index used in construction for inflation. It has measured the exact same labor hours and materials for 100 years. It has been 2.5x higher than cpi the entire century.

The dumbest narratives: “The mere suggestion that COVID may well have come from a laboratory is a racist and paranoid conspiracy theory.” “Immigration is the rarest thing in economics: essentially a ‘free lunch’ with no downsides. Unless you are a xenophobe.” “Quantum Gravity has been the Holy Grail of theoretical physics since the birth of relativity and the quantum.” “Vaccines are safe. Full stop. Unless you are a paranoid anti-vaxxer.” “Americans can’t do science and aren’t interested in it because they are lazy. Thankfully Asia sends us their best and their brightest.” “String Theory is the only Game in town and has been for more than 40 years.” “You are imagining rates of inflation far higher than CPI. You just don’t seem to understand translog aggregator functions and superlative index theory.” “Peer Review has always been, and continues to be, fundamental to science and dates to the very founding of the Royal Society hundreds of years ago. Only the weak say otherwise.” All derive from policy types. None of the above are true. None are scientific. They are provably false.

Free tuition" is not the same as a "free degree." Students still face massive costs for housing, food, and materials in an expensive city like Chicago. By waiving tuition, universities can continue to justify astronomical increases in non-tuition fees and room-and-board costs, which are often not covered by these guarantees.

AI godfather warns humanity risks extinction by hyperintelligent machines with their own ‘preservation goals’ within 10 years | Marco Quiroz-Gutierrez, Fortune One of the so-called godfathers of AI, Yoshua Bengio, claims tech companies racing for AI dominance could be bringing us closer to our own extinction through the creation of machines with “preservation goals” of their own. Bengio, a professor at the Université de Montréal known for his foundational work related to deep learning, has for years warned about the threats posed by a hyperintelligent AI, but the rapid pace of development has continued despite his warnings. In the past year, OpenAI, Anthropic, Elon Musk’s xAI, and Google’s Gemini, have all released several new models or upgrades as they try to win the AI race. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has predicted AI will surpass human intelligence by the end of the decade, while other tech leaders claim that day could come even sooner. Yet, Bengio claims, this rapid pace is a potential threat. “If we build machines that are way smarter than us and have their own preservation goals, that’s dangerous. It’s like creating a competitor to humanity that is smarter than us,” Bengio told the Wall Street Journal in October. Because they are trained on human language and behavior, these advanced models could potentially persuade and even manipulate humans to achieve their goals. Yet, AI models’ goals may not always align with human goals, said Bengio. “Recent experiments show that in some circumstances where the AI has no choice but between its preservation, which means the goals that it was given, and doing something that causes the death of a human, they might choose the death of the human to preserve their goals,” he claimed. Call for AI safety Several examples over the past few years show AI can persuade humans to believe non-realities, even those with no history of mental illness. On the flip side, some evidence exists that AI can also be convinced, using persuasion techniques for humans, to give responses it would usually be prohibited from giving. For Bengio, all this adds up to more proof that independent third parties need to take a closer look at AI companies’ safety methodologies. Last year, Bengio launched nonprofit LawZero with $30 million in funding to create a safe “non-agentic” AI that can help ensure the safety of other systems created by big tech companies. Otherwise, Bengio predicts, we could start seeing major risks from AI models in five to 10 years, but he cautioned humans should prepare in case those risks crop up earlier than expected. “The thing with catastrophic events like extinction, and even less radical events that are still catastrophic, like destroying our democracies, is that they’re so bad that even if there was only a 1% chance it could happen, it’s not acceptable,” he said. fortune.com/article/ai-god…

Anthropic just published a support page that should terrify anyone holding its shares on the secondary market. "Any sale or transfer of Anthropic stock, or any interest in Anthropic stock, that has not been approved by our Board of Directors is void and will not be recognized on our books and records." Void. Not restricted. Not pending review. Void. That means if you bought Anthropic shares through Forge, Hiive, or any other secondary platform without board approval, you are not a stockholder. You have no stockholder rights. Your transaction is invalid. It gets worse. Anthropic says it does not permit SPVs to hold its stock. Any transfer to an SPV is void. Investment funds claiming to offer indirect exposure are "most likely relying on mechanisms that attempt to circumvent our transfer restrictions." Forward contracts, tokenized securities, synthetic exposure products, all of it potentially worthless. Their advice to investors: "Assume that it is invalid." There is a multi-billion dollar secondary market in Anthropic shares right now. Platforms are pricing the stock at $265-$1,400+ per share based on a $380 billion valuation. Real people have put real money into these positions. And Anthropic just told them none of it counts. This is the purest possible illustration of counterparty risk. You can buy a share of a company and have the company itself declare your ownership void because you bought it through the wrong channel.

Anthropic's growth rate is accelerating at $14 billion of scale. The chart is on a log scale. A straight line on log means constant percentage growth. The curve above is bending up. Dec 2022 to Jan 2025 was 10x per year, twice. Dec 2025 to May 2026 was 5x in five months. The annualized rate at $14B exceeds the rate at $1B. That isn't supposed to happen. Percentage growth decays as software companies scale. The largest software businesses have never sustained 50%+ YoY at $10B+ ARR, let alone accelerated. Slack held the record for fastest SaaS company to $1B ARR. It took five years. Anthropic went from $1B to $44B in seventeen months. Salesforce did $37.9B in revenue across all of fiscal 2025. Anthropic's run rate now exceeds Salesforce. Salesforce was founded in 1999. The most aggressive analyst projection from August 2025 had Anthropic hitting $30B ARR by August 2026. They beat the bull case by four months. The acceleration is Claude Code. Launched May 2025. $2.5B in run-rate revenue by February 2026. Weekly active users doubled since January. Enterprise customers spending over $1M per year went from 500 to 1,000 in two months. That's where the curve comes from. The check size is compounding. The user count is secondary. The last ninety days added more ARR than the entire seventeen-month climb to $14B. There is no comparable curve in software history.

From 1908-1940, Sears sold over 70,000 mail-order homes for around $938, shipped by rail for easy assembly by owners or local builders. $938 in 1910 is equivalent in purchasing power to approximately $32,604 today. What would that get you now?
