@MollyBeck @zakouts84 I have driven Madison to St Louis maybe a half dozen times. All I can really remember is there was one exit for a place called Paw Paw. And that Springfield seemed nice enough but holy hell far away.

@MollyBeck @zakouts84 Illinois south of Chicago is unspeakably unremarkable from a landscape perspective. Also, almost all of Illinois is south of Chicago. Also Illinois is a geographically tall state.

@neoliberal_hack @Rob_Flaherty Well that actually means we agree. If I lived in Maine I would not have the stomach to lift a finger to help his campaign financially or with my time. But I would hold my nose and vote because of the Senate.

@BlueCheese608 @Rob_Flaherty I hope Platner wins because to me control of the senate is that important. But I don't have any illusions about what I'm rooting for. I'm doing the same thing Trump voters did and choosing my political "side" over character or good morals. It sucks.

@bdquinn Whether Rubio is formidable or not really will depend on the mood of the country in 2028. If it’s like it is today, he’s toast. If it’s improved, I’d say he’s pretty formidable post-Trump escape hatch for many. I also wouldn’t discount an insurgent Tucker Inc candidate.

@neoliberal_hack @Rob_Flaherty I’m a Democrat. So I don’t see the comparison that way. I”ll take bad people who do good things over good people that do bad things. GOP senate = bad things. For the record I think Platner is an absolutely horrible candidate and from what I’ve seen not a good guy. It’s bitter.

@BlueCheese608 @Rob_Flaherty yeah, and to Republicans in 2016 Democrats were "the threat" that led them to back Trump despite any misgivings they had about his character. It's a 1:1 comparison really. The question is is there any line a candidate could cross character wise?

@neoliberal_hack @Rob_Flaherty Totally different. Trump/Republicans are the threat. The ones who led to and will lead to disastrous policies. Collins is a vote to enable that. Platner is a vote to stop it (though I fully admit after two years he’s a wild card and could be a sleeper MAGA).

@BlueCheese608 @Rob_Flaherty You’re just justifying all the republicans who didn’t stand up to trump but knew better lol. The guy is a scumbag, it’s the voters fault for preferring him 🤷🏻‍♂️

@engele @Rob_Flaherty I don’t want to be associated with either Platner or Susan Collins. Susan Collins will do more damage to the country if she wins (and is the deciding 50th vote) than if Platner wins. I hate that we are here, but here we are.

@BlueCheese608 @Rob_Flaherty It’s past that. Platner is REALLY offensive. No one should want to be associated. The fact we do not call out our own is why we are here. 100% of the excesses we are paying for now are because we did not call our own to account.

Other than Jan 2, I think the Tuesday after Memorial Day is the hardest day to think about reporting back to work. Even if you love your job. Mondays should be part of the weekend all year. Mainly because of how amazing Sundays become.

@tencor_7144 None of these are the best options but among them I would say Harris is the clear winner if these are the only choice. She lost enough swing states by tiny margins in a very anti Democrat year. Do I feel comfortable running her again? Hell no.

@ohitswaters We need a savior this time. It’s not these two. Though I think both *might* be able to win in 2028, I have no patience for might this time.

@BlueCheese608 I’d love to pick up a copy of that map for my collection. I picked up this one a few years back at a brewery in Oshkosh.

Have been staring at this map (took pic at Fromagination cheese shop). The craziest thing is this probably only captures ½ of the actual supper club census, the ones that fit on the map. 'Jim & Linda’s On The Lake’ (practically my 2nd babysitter growing up) is too long!

@ryangruber Nah. I agree Susan Collins is (arguably but not definitively) a better human being. But at this point for me it’s party over human - by a long shot.

@BlueCheese608 As a human being? Absolutely not. Lol. As your preferred political tool? Go ahead and feel free to prioritize your support based on whatever feels good to you. Human shitbird vs. a normal human who sometimes supports a president I don't care for? I'll take Collins every time.
