They control the influencers and where the conversations go - its why you can end up with "conservative" influencers distorting and regressing religion, openly promoting sexual violence and domination of women or shutting down of education, which are all an erosion of basic moral and social principles. The oligarchy controls the frame, either overtly or covertly in the "independent" media environment. The two sides are consistently pushed into conflict, and they ultimately control the outcomes - playing the wins and losses in such a way to keep both sides traumatized enough to stay engaged but unable to see a way to control any outcomes. Since the entire apparatus is based on the beliefs of a fascist ruling class convinced of their own supremacy - aka, elite rule - the agenda they advance is always to the right and they do pose a legitimate threat to basic morality, along with civil, human and social rights...
