@codexeditor My hunch is that the legacy of sound being executed in intrusive, blanket ways (autoplaying music/video/etc) left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. So we all over-corrected and backed away from it entirely. We never went back to recognize that it can be done appropriately.

Operating systems use sound effects. Games use sound effects. Why don't more websites?
