The Doctor Who Show 🇦🇺
It's embarrassing how gullible Star Wars fans are. The rumour that Disney will axe the sequels from canon has been repeated ad infinitum over 7 years. Yet, with a new film about to launch, surprise, the rumour mill starts again. No one questions it; just treats it as real. FFS.

@GCDickens @IMAO_ I mean no offense, but I've found the average Star Wars to not be very discriminating. If it has lightsaber battles & space dogfights, they're happy. That's what makes Disney's failure to win them over so impressive. The bar was very, very low but Disney couldn't manage it.

@GCDickens @IMAO_ Rogue One is the kind of film that appeals to the average Star Wars fan. It ticks all the boxes. But it has no soul and adds nothing interesting to the Star Wars mythos.

The Force Awakens domestic gross was $937 million. No other movie has come close to that. There was a lot that movie did wrong, but it did some very fundamental things right to get that many people to see it. And then Rogue One was very entertaining and definitely made for Star Wars fans. I think people forget how great things were looking after Disney's first two movies and how much anticipation there was for The Last Jedi which most people assumed was going to be The Empire Strikes Back of the trilogy, improving on The Force Awakens's decent start. But The Last Jedi was like, "Everything you liked about The Force Awakens? That was dumb. We're doing something different."

@thrillhouse01 @peterrhague So you're saying there is no archaeological evidence for any of the places or people mentioned in the Iliad and the Odyssey?

This gorgeous machine is the AKAT-1. Constructed in Poland in 1959 by Jacek Karpinski and Janusz Tomaszewski, this was one of the world's first transistor-based analog computers. If you think the AKAT-1 looks more like a piece of modern art than a computer, you're onto something. The exterior and control panel were actually designed by artists associated with the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. Sadly, this machine never actually went into mass production, but don't you wish it had? #RetroTech #VintageComputing #ComputerHistory

@scrumblebum1 @AvidCommentator @lauren_vasiliou To be fair, the original Labour proposal was for a fibre optic network directly to the home. The Libs nuked it out of spite. If it had gone ahead, we'd all be on blazing fast internet now.

@TheMekon_Venus Usborne was the king of children's educational publishing in the UK in the 1980s. I grew up (in Australia) on the Usborne programming books for kids. In their own way they are unsurpassed.

My school used to force us to take books out of the library. This type of book was what I went for. Clearly BS.. but a lot of fun.

Does anyone recall a city the size of Canberra or Newcastle being built from the ground up in the last 12 months? Net migration was 480k for the same period. Rental Vacancies are less than 1% It’s not slowing down. The country is on a high speed collision course with reality.

The thing I find funny about the migration debate is conceptually what's not to love. As a wealthy developed nation you can choose some of the top surgeons, builders and entrepreneurs on the planet to help enhance your society and prosper with your people. It should be the slam dunk of slam dunk policy settings. But here we are debating over it because fools want to run at it at a rate that no longer benefits the per capita economy, at a level that far outstrips the ability to deliver infrastructure and housing. An issue that now undermines social cohesion and is a political landmine because it was mismanaged by a series of fools.
