Far from adjusting people to a new prison reality, the lockdowns brought people back to the world and to each other. For all its tinpot tyranny and stupidities around speech policing, the British state and its lackeys are visibly weak and, even worse, boring.

In Greek myth, Hubris is excessive pride or arrogance, and it is always punished by Nemesis - the Goddess of retribution. Nemesis carries scales & a sword, to judge and to punish. Acts of Hubris always summon Nemesis. Nemesis is on her way to Silicon Valley right now.

Generative AI does not “create” art. And artists are not machines who are trained on past art. Look at Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Cimabue, Giotto, Picasso. Yes, they had artists who came before them who they learned from but their principle engagement was with reality and with the material of their art form itself. They created completely new forms, they discovered new things about the world and the possibilities of art. The genius of Da Vinci does not come from his tutor Verrochio who he surpassed within mere years. Da Vinci learned more from observing the movements of water, from the anatomy of bodies and from the forms of flowers. Artists like da Vinci did not import 3 billion images or words and rearrange them into to existing patterns like AI does. Artists learn from the world, create from the fusion of their emotions, senses, memory, imagination and the materials themselves. They return to the world again and again to study and take inspiration from lived experience and to negotiate with their materials. AI doesn’t do this. AI can’t do this. AI is a probability machine in a closed box of images and words, which is why it has to endlessly be fed new human made material. AI only mimics pre-existing creative forms within the art of humans. AI exists in a closed loop of the already-done. Generative AI cannot create.

Dystopia - with a smiling face. Automated systems will deal with the mass of people made unemployed by AI. Not a shred of humanity anywhere in the new system of human replacement.

🧵 THREAD! UK police are arresting over 12,000 each year for ‘offensive’ speech. That’s over 30 arrests per day. So I thought I’d compile a list of UK citizens who have been visited, investigated or arrested by police for speech crime. This list is by no means comprehensive!

Very moving piece from @AllisonPearson on Lucy Connolly. A huge injustice for a woman and her family. But also a striking example of two-tier justice, how our institutions are out of control and how bullshit social science reigns supreme.

So AI companies aren't even pushing "opt-out" as a solution anymore, they just want your data and life's work for free, but you don't get paid, and you can't say no. Who in their right mind thinks this is okay? It's insanity.
Karla Ortiz@kortizart

1/4 Well look at that. Open Ai and Google outright reject “Opt-Out” models, hell they even reject basic transparency requirements. AI companies demand they get everything, including our Intellectual Property, for free, and without anyone ever being able to tell the companies no.
