now in an issue and always open access: how deficit thinking about language gets designed into school discipline policies, and how deviations from ideologies of normative speech get encoded as imagined signs of misbehaviour. doi.org/10.1080/096202…

what does ‘misbehaviour’ sound like? in new open access work i ask this question in the context of school discipline policies, looking at how ideologies of ‘im/proper language’ and ‘im/proper behaviour’ coalesce and get co-constructed with one another. doi.org/10.1080/096202…

This is very good in today’s Irish Times by Eimear Nolan and Dirk Lindebaum on the problems A.I. presents past the problem of integrity. Although aimed at Higher Education, so much is also relevant to schools. #edchatie

Another Sunday, another Language Paper 1 created from a beautiful extract in the book I’m currently reading. This time, ‘Babel’ by R.F.Kuang. Not that I’m pushing my personal interests or anything 👀 Let me know if you want the link!

@Shabnamagram I use a Kobo and it’s excellent - all the books under the sun and great deals on their store too. You can also sync up and read ebooks from your local library… all that AND not giving money to Amazon - that’s the true moral win 🥹✨

Book readers - I need some advice. I love the feel (and smell) of a physical book. I like turning pages. But I am spending an incredible amount of money on buying books. Do you have a kindle and has it ruined your reading experience? What else can I do to not spend so much?

When you expose a problem, you pose a problem. - This Sara Ahmed quote is the most potent in first quarter of 21c. Being read as posing a problem when exposing a problem makes you the problem. The task for us in our troubled era is how to inhabit this space of being the problem.

i am still in shock but I have won a Philip Leverhulme Prize. starting in autumn 2026 for 3 years, i’ll be looking at linguistic justice in schools, particularly in how children and teachers engage in radical, grassroots activism for structural change. 🌸 leverhulme.ac.uk/news/2025PLP

@FayeGriffiths8 @ian_cushing The overwhelming thing they wanted was collaboration - on a family, friends and community level. They wanted to bridge the classroom with their lives and they felt English allowed them to do so ✨

@FayeGriffiths8 @ian_cushing A lot of them wanted to be able to reflect or document on an online notebook - when I asked about it, a group said, “we would like to get your opinion on our readings and see how you respond” 🥹

Teach Like a Champion…. but for prison officers. it was always logical that a pedagogical industry built on compliance, control and surveillance has been exported from schools into prisons 🤷‍♀️
Harry Fletcher-Wood@HFletcherWood

Teach Like a Champion demonstrates the value of identifying and describing effective practice. It gave professionals the tools they need to learn and improve. Now, with @unlockedgrads and @NPorter_, we've done something similar for prison officers x.com/HFletcherWood/…
