@WonPeople @IsabelOakeshott It’s just one of the back alleys around where I used to live as a student in Woodhouse! To be fair it was kinda rough. Once a random kid tried to climb in through my window while I was sat at my desk! 😂

We have to recognise the REASON the paramedics in replies are excited. One spelled it out “great to know there are chances to advance my career”. That’s important! But the way it’s being done now, it’s *at the expense* of training doctors & fundamentally changes hosp structure.

Pt has anaemia and abnormal FIT. Referred under 2WW. Seen by Surgeons. CT virtual colonoscopy normal. Discharged. Shouldn't they carry on looking for the cause of the blood loss? Or is this for General Practice to keep tabs on these patients and then follow them up?

How often do you hear this during the WHO surgical brief? “Team introductions? Na I think we all know each other, let’s move on”. 👀 Half the time we don’t, and it’s worth doing properly.

In my opinion, university is the best place to learn the anatomy, physiology etc that is required to be a doctor. Want to improve access to medicine? Improve funding for those studying undergraduate/postgraduate medical degrees. Apprenticeships aren’t a good fit for medicine

NEW: we need to talk about NHS staff retention. At a time when Britain’s healthcare system is acutely short of workers, *1 in 7* UK-trained doctors are practising overseas. No other developed country is like this, which immediately tells you there’s a problem. Let’s dig deeper:

@RoshanaMN @DHSCgovuk @SteveBarclay *Based on a 38 hr week, with double pay for every hr past 40. Then there’s the tax benefits! I took home more in 2011 as an Intern in Aus than I do in London as an SpR in 2023, including Ldn and PhD bonuses. There is a fundamental difference in how Aus respects and values Drs

@mmamas1973 @LastBlairite We don’t seem to be capable of comparing pay with other professions without offending them, even if we didn’t intend to say they are not worth their pay (see baristas, plumbers etc). Some may not even accept the true worth of doctors either. MPs are perhaps fair targets though?

1. Please show me exactly where I have attacked anyone in the plumbing profession? (Rather than your interpretation of my post). To be clear tradespeople deserve every penny thst they are paid. The current government is trying to undermine public health sector workers and make the system fail. ➡️

1) Don’t want to pay it? Unblock it yourself 2) Yes we should pay Doctors more 3) Attacking self employed small trades people is wrong and totally misguided 4) There is a level of real snobbishness about this way of thinking that’s deeply unpleasant.

@B_G_Gruff @brionytheliony @JamesTitcombe You’re right in implying that striking is only effective if those in charge actually care about the service being affected. Months of trying to negotiate before now failed for the same reason. I worry we’re at the precipice of losing the NHS unless there’s a change of leadership.

@choupolo @brionytheliony @JamesTitcombe But all that has been achieved is reduced safety on inpatient areas, cancellations and increased burden on colleagues. There are no talks ongoing. Perhaps a more effective negotiation strategy could have avoided both

Have avoided commenting on the strike action so far, but for what it’s worth, I think junior doctors are right to demand better pay & conditions. People using the NHS want the people caring for them to be paid inline with the responsibility & professionalism the role demands. Hoping that a fair resolution can be found asap - both the short and long term consequences of getting this wrong is a serious & unnecessary risk to patient safety.
Partha S Kar 🇮🇳🇬🇧🏏🎥@parthaskar

@CarverEmily 1. Yes 2. Even at the top end of a “junior doc” which is a very experienced doc -it’s 28£/hr - that’s pretty low 3. Not matching inflation can only be “ok” for so long 4. You shouldn’t have to rely on overtime to pay your bills-a big one being outstanding debts Hope that helps

@B_G_Gruff @brionytheliony @JamesTitcombe Consultants are covering urgent care, so the main impact will be on elective waiting lists. Issue is we have been accepting pay cuts for the greater good for years. Now that we risk losing free healthcare altogether due to retention reaching crisis, something had to be done.

@brionytheliony @JamesTitcombe 1. With respect, we don't know that (see images). I have asked if anyone can show me a study that does prove it, but I'm yet to see one. 2. It's also in the BMA's power to stop the strikes. The strikes are not required to campaign for more pay. Why risk harm to patients?

@ShaunLintern If they want ‘in line with other sectors’, instead of 35% most probably would be happy to price match MP salaries.

New in from Downing Street on #JuniorDoctorsStrike - no talks unless BMA drop 35% pay rise ask. Ok, but where is the counter offer from Govt?
