AC/DC Album Ranking from Worst to Best #1: Highway To Hell (1979) To me, this is the crowning achievement of the Bon Scott era. Which in turn, makes this the band’s crowning achievement all together! All of the build up and all of the songwriting improvements from previous albums came together PERFECTLY here, culminating in the band’s first true commercially successful album! And what’s amazing is that commerciality CAME TO THEM! They didn’t compromise ANYTHING to gain success! Their swagger is still FULLY intact, while EVERY SINGLE HOOK and riff on this thing is catchy AS FUCK and memorable! I also think this is Bon Scott’s BEST vocal performance! He adds the most amount of melody to his voice here while also keeping his signature snarl and grit intact! It really says something that the title track is SO OVERPLAYED, and yet everyone still loves it. I know I never get tired of hearing it…on the occasion it comes on😂 ‘Girls Got Rhythm’ is just a ‘feel good’ song with a GREAT riff! ‘Walk All Over You’ has such a cool build up with those opening chords, then the riff comes in and KILLS! ‘Touch Too Much’ is seriously one of the CATCHIEST songs the band ever wrote! HOLY SHIT ‘Beating Around The Bush’ might have Angus Young’s most “complex” riff here ever wrote. I know it’s not saying much with this band, but you listen and tell me that riff doesn’t ACTUALLY impress you😂 ‘Shot Down In Flames’ and ‘Get It Hot’ are the two songs that sound the most like they came from the first couple of albums. Really great songs! ‘If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It)’ is my favorite song on the album and it was the name of the band’s best live album for a reason😂 ‘Love Hungry Man’ is a really good song. And ‘Night Prowler’ is such a KILLER closing track! And it’s the Bluesiest sounding track with a GREAT groove! When combining everything that made the albums that came before this, with a new TRUE ear for writing accessible and catchy Hard Rock tunes makes this is my eyes the best AC/DC album! It helps you realize that an album like ‘Back In Black’ was on the horizon even if Bon Scott has still been the singer. Because this album was already proving the band could have mass appeal, even while keeping intact what made them unique. And that’s something very rarely found in the Rock and Metal world🔥🤘🏻
