First bit of writing I've done in some time. 5 thoughts from Sligo Rovers' important win over Waterford last night: facebook.com/groups/sligoro…

@NJHoopsHaven Didnt realize you put this together over the last few seasons, Jerry. Very thoughtful to honor JP.

AJ Staton-McCray is the recipient of the JP Pelzman Award for his interactions with the media - win or lose, always a thoughtful and accessible young man. It was my honor to present him with an engraved pen in memory of JP, who we all miss a great deal.

In Stangmore Park for Derry City v Sligo Rovers. Just one trialist involved for Sligo Rovers. Carl McHugh, Ryan O’Kane, Alex Nolan, Liam Hughes and David Jonathan all down as trialists on FAI Connect.

@IFBMedia @RandomGlenavon Francey has a role and thats to be a terror for 20-30 off the bench when opposing defenders are tiring. If hes not closing down opponents and running, his technical skills cant be relied upon. He didnt put in the effort first half with Rovers but when he did, hes quite useful

@RandomGlenavon That’s great, I’m quite sure you’re well versed in your club certainly more than I am. Calling a footballer “poor” will never be my style. Horses for courses. But as someone who can hardly a kick a ball his “career” is not to be laughed at. All about maximising ability. Levels

Genuinely none are “poor” players even if some argue otherwise. I think all have attributes/qualifies you’d want in a Premier Division team. My issue with their recruitment is that it gives the same vibe as Cork City’s last season. “Romanticism” not enough starting quality.

Francely Lomboto has been training with his former side Galway United following his release from Glenavon! 🏋️ Al-Amin Kazeem, another ex-player who recently left St. Pats, and Austin striker Peter Grogan are also rumoured targets! 🎯

@TheSportsJD There are certainly rules. Beauty is subjective and many think a green lawn is it. I didnt move my lawn a single time since June this year. The long grass and diverse flowers were absolutely stunning as late summer turned to autumn.

@chris17_srfc I think there are places the HOA requires people to remove their leaves in a timely fashion to keep the neighborhood beautiful

I will never be able to wrap my head around leaf-blowing culture. It is maddening. Let's noise and air pollute for what purpose? Let nature do its thing. I will confess to borrowing a few leaves via rake for bedding into the garden and compost. Nothing more.

@FitzsimonsKeith @seidodge How come? Drogs have by far worst xG of top 6. I interpret that as a bit of "luck" factor. I am far from an xG merchant, but think it justifies some of the "how did they get points there?" results re: Drogs

Well-taken goal from O'Kane. Drogs had all the momentum after their substitution changed things. However, no less than deserved for Rovers after they controlled the first 30'; Elding should have had a goal, plus the two penalty shouts - Hakiki's more convincing of the two.

@chippie1974 John, appreciate all the figures you post. Looking ahead, do you think this figure will be a bit higher for '25-26 and be divided across 8 clubs?

What mostly went to the 9 Irish premier clubs for the 2024 season in UEFA solidarity. The big amount is based on the overall Irish coefficient and for this we were 36th I think. 85% of this goes to premier clubs and 15% to first division.

@jessicafarry Thanks Jessica. 12KM matches the 'eye test'. Based on my highly sound AI research... thats about what the top CMs would cover and a few KM more than wingers.

Stat Id like to see for Owen is ground covered per match. His application behind the ball perhaps the best of any attacking player that is anywhere as lethal as him. His 15 tackles won and 54 aerial duals won an indicator of this.

@FrankHorsley67 Unit my exact phrasing on a forum post I just made. 😅 Rotating him and Reynolds in any given match can out muscle any opponents on their left flank.

@ArranAFCSTL @reptracker Certainly. The clauses surely agent-driven. "We will look elsewhere if you dont agree on a clause". Im sure most clubs would prefer not to have them. I doubt Doyle Hayes would have been in Sligo w/o one. Stepping stone.

@chris17_srfc @reptracker Once you get rid of the stupid release clauses from the league you are then in a position of power . Losing the leagues best to England and Scotland for 60k fees helps nobody

Understand that Sligo Rovers want a club record fee in the region of €1.5 million for Owen Elding. Norwich City, Club Brugge, and Robbie Keane’s Ferencváros, among others, are showing interest in Elding. He is not expected to move until January.

@ArranAFCSTL @reptracker Helps he has a contract until 2027. Seems contracts are getting longer and longer on average which is helpful. Clubs are taking somewhat of an up-front gamble but they need to if you expect a fee.
